Holiday Gift Guide! The holiday season is fast approaching. So for all you lazy, thoughtless people in need of fab gift ideas, I present you with our fabulous holiday gift guide. We've done the dirty work for you, so you can sit back, sip eggnog and tell Santa your credit card number. Happy holidays!
Some things to keep in mind as you're searching for gifts this holiday season:
1) It really is the thought that counts. If you really can't afford to buy something, then you shouldn't. Your gift recipients don't want to be accomplices to your foray into debt. 2) We've provided lots of bargain gift ideas in this gift guide. But the real value is in leading you to tons of different websites you may have not otherwise known of. So go forth and explore! You're sure to find something fun! 3) Personalized gifts are always so thoughtful. And it's a huge trend this year. Whether you opt for trendy monogrammed tanks, initial purses or engraved jewelry, you're sure to make someone's day. 4) Buying something for someone that they would have never bought for themselves is always a great way to go. This doesn't mean you should get someone a gift certificate for a massage if that would make him/her uncomfortable, but something they might enjoy and wouldn't have bought for themselves. (Note: This doesn't mean to buy them something you would love, but something you truly think they'd enjoy but would never actually get for themselves.) Think outside of the box. 5) Avoid giving the gift of green, a.k.a. cash. Instead opt for gift certificates. Just be sure to personalize them as much as possible. For example, if you're shopping for your java-obsessed friend, get them a Starbuck's gift card. If it's for your film buff friend, snag 'em some Blockbuster certs or local movie theater passes. 6) Image is everything. You don't have to spend a lot to show you care, but it does help if you put some effort into the wrapping. Think fun tissue paper and bows. Boxes are normally free from department stores. Local newspapers can make interesting wrapping paper. Show your personal style! 7) Handmade goodies are always loved. Whether you bake lemon bars, sew some pillows or concoct bath oils, it's hard not to love something made by someone's own two hands. 8) If you like the idea of handmade but aren't so crafty, don't sweat it. We've included links to a bunch of up-and-coming designers in this guide. You'll score unique gifts and help support their businesses at the same time. Warm fuzzies! 9) If you want to give the gift of clothes, avoid pants and things that are hard to fit. Instead stick to outerwear like trendy scarves, gloves and even sweaters and jackets. 10) If you're buying electronics, gadgets and software, be sure to ask if there are any restocking fees if you need to make a return. Stores like Best Buy are particularly bad about this so ask before you buy. 11) Keep all receipts and get gift receipts whenever possible. 12) Also, while you may be doing a great job by getting your holiday shopping done in advance, be aware of stores' return policies - sometimes it's as little as 5-10 days so get the info upfront. 13) Again, it really is the thought that counts. You don't need to spend a lot to show you care.
