Kelly's Klicks: Girly Golf Goodies Q. I've recently taken up golf, which is surprisingly fun, but I can't find any cute golf wear or gear in any of the shops. This stuff is expensive, so I don't want to spend money on things I don't like, but I certainly want to keep playing. Do you have any idea if cute golf apparel and accessories for women even exist, and if so, where I can get my hands on some? A. Some people think women have shied away from golfing for so long because it's such a boys club. I, on the other hand, think it's because women didn't want to subject themselves to such horrible fashion. Over the past few years, women have found themselves in your golf shoes, and a few entrepreneurial ones decided to do something about it. Like Ame and Lulu, for instance, otherwise known as Amye Kurson and Suzanne Smetana. When searching for golf headcovers that were not stuffed animal heads (well doesn't that sound creepy) or the dreaded knitted pompom, they discovered what they wanted simply didn't exist. Hence the creation of their cute and preppy line at ameandlulu.com. Snag a set of four covers, in lime plaid, pink and green toile or palamina and pink twill, among others, for $100. For an extra charge, you can even have them monogrammed. While there, scope out the coordinating shoe bags, tee bags and barrel bags, all feminine, fun and appropriate for the course.
When a plain old golf bag just won't do, head to kerigolf.com. Even if you've never golfed a day in your life, you'll want to start after seeing these bags. Pretty pinks, vibrant stripes and stylish gingham, with fun names like Jackie and MaryKate, these bags score a hole-in-one. Prices range from $275-$395, though there is an all-pink leather bag for $1200 you could take home if you're so lucky. Every bag comes with a free travel cover and accessory bag and you can purchase coordinating and delicious golf headcovers for $55, too.
Greendivas.com features golf bags with in-your-face prints, like pink and red florals and Dalmatian spots, plus a detachable handbag feature. Prices range from $250-$375. Drink totes in the shape of mini golf bags allow you to stash your hooch, err I mean Gatorade, plus any snacks, glasses, cameras -- you get the idea -- for $32.
What's a swinging chick to wear? Check out swingchick.com and chickabiddy.com for the answer. Ditch the frumpy polos for chickabiddy's fitted polo in white, pink, or aqua, for $48. The Pacific Pant in Pink Papaya ($76) will keep you warm when playing those chilly morning rounds. Swingchick offers up sporty and youthful styles, including cargo pants ($85) and boardskorts ($65), full of hidden pockets to stash your necessities. You can also snag cute accessories like flower pompom socks for $6, cute golf towels for $13 and fun ball markers/hat clips for $10.
For more great clothes and shoes, including Escada's golf collection, head to ladygolf.com. Their comprehensive site also includes hats, visors, gloves, belts and yes, even cleavage coolers. Finally, check out what you're spending hours on, praying and willing it will make it to the green, golf balls. Cuz white is so 1985. Hit a pack of hot pink, pastel green, or a mixed rainbow, at the aptly named golfballs.com. Fore!
