September 29, 2003 : Floral Dress by Scott: $47.99

Funkythreads.com is sort of like the girlshop.com of the west coast. They feature clothes and accessories from many of L.A.'s hippest boutiques and allow you to shop online all in one stop. It's not nearly as extensive as girlshop, but you can still find some great rags, like this wrap-around floral dress by Scott. It's available in a red/burgundy/brown combo or a blue/black combo for $47.99.

September 26, 2003 : Pelle Pelle Coat: $69.99

Overstock.com is a bargain hunter's paradise. Tons of great brands, tons of categories, tons of steals. Like this Pelle Pelle coat – it's sky blue, filled with down, and boasts a great faux fur collar. It's warm enough to insulate you from the cold but won't make you look bulky, and the nylon will keep you dry as the rain tries to dampen your spirit -- and your blouse. Best of all it's just $69.99. Also available in steel grey for $69.99 or with real fox fur for $89.99.

September 25, 2003 : Fishs Eddy

You've worked hard to make your place look hot, so why should your kitchen get the shaft? To spice up your dinnerware and cool glass collection, head to fishseddy.com, where you'll find a spectacular array of anything- but-fishy kitchen accessories. Even though I have no idea what they're used for, I like these porcelain glove molds, as well as the 212 Skyline series and the custom glassware.

September 24, 2003 : Groove Camp Initial Gloves: $37

What's a girly girl to do? Luckily Groove Camp has come to the rescue with these stylish personalized gloves. Don't sacrifice bling, rather sport your initials in Swarovski crystals instead. These gloves will take you from cold to warm and blah to bang in ten fingers flat. They also make a great gift for that narcissistic princess in your life -- and pleasing her for a mere $37 is as easy as finding love on a reality show. To give your fingers a personality of their own, head to girlshop.com now.

September 15, 2003 : The Renegade Craft Fair!

Sure, craft fair. I can hear you scoffing now. But let me clarify. First of all, craft does not equal crap. I know craft fair conjures up images of grannies selling their tired, less-than-original old people stuff. But times, they are a changin'. For those who don't know, there's been this whole underground DIY movement of (gasp!) young people. Lots of twentysomething chicks making awesome accessories, bags, clothes, journals and more. The great part is that it means you can get one-of-a-kind finds, boosting your originality and style points. Like with vintage, you're not gonna show up somewhere with a bag or dress someone else is already wearing. Whew!

Here's a sampling of the vendors that will be tearing it up in Chicago's Wicker Park this Saturday, September 20th. If you can't make it in person, you can check out their great sites and buy online. Remember, the holidays are only a few months away, so start ordering now!

September 12, 2003 : The Weekend Buss: Mini Nylon Umbrella

Another rainy day in paradise? At least this hand-painted umbrella will keep you somewhat dry and in good spirits -- how could that vibrant yellow not make you think of 'Singin' in the Rain?' Also available in pink, sky blue, green and lilac for just $5 at pearlrivermart.com.

September 11, 2003 : Glarkware Tee: $18

This one's for all the fellas out there, or all the ladies lovin' ladies. "My girlfriend can totally beat up your girlfriend' is such a fun statement, isn't it? Sure beats wearing, "CK' or "GAP" across your chest. No offense, Madonna. Glarkware is full of kitschy fun, including an "I Shot J.R." tee and perhaps the best $3.50 investment a moviegoer could make: Movie Manners "Shut Up" Cards. And who can resist the Swedish Boy Band buttons? Glark of Glarkware is one of the fab people responsible for Television Without Pity, the Canadian-based pop culture destination for TV addicts everywhere. But don't hold the crazy canuck thing against them. Really, they're cool. Scout's honor.

September 09, 2003 : Perfect-Fit Leather Pants: $79

Mooove over linen pants, it's time for fall. And that means leather pants. There's just something so sexy and classy about them. The only problem is finding a pair that actually fits -- and not spending your whole paycheck. Which explains why I am so jazzed to come across these -- not only are they low-rise and boot-cut and oh-so-figure-flattering, but they're only $79, a mere fraction of what they normally cost. Get them in black, camel or double espresso at spiegel.com before they're all gone.

September 05, 2003 : The Weekend Buss: NEON TIGHTS

In case you've been in hibernation mode, newsflash: mod is all the rage for fall. But perhaps you don't wanna spend a lot on the apparel itself. Fair enough. An easy (and fun) way to get the look is via accessories. Like with these bright and funky tights. Completely shagadelic and just a $12 dent in the ol' pocketbook. You can snag these at the always cool and mod urbanoutfitters.com.

September 04, 2003 : Screwball Shakers: $29.99

It's always exciting to stumble upon another really cool shopping site. This time I've tripped all the way over to North Carolina. Ouch! But when I picked myself up and brushed myself off, I instantly went gaga over modernartisans.com. Why? Like the smaller but more ambitious kid sister, MA is another Uncommon Goods in the making. They sell uniquely handcrafted items by known and unknown artists around the country. Who doesn't like a shop that takes chances on the little people! They've got home accents, garden accessories, original art, wall decor, handcrafted jewelry and plenty of fun gift ideas. And they're my favorite: affordable! I'm in lurve with these Screwball Shakers as well as these funky Record Bowls! Check 'em out along with many more artistic useables at modernartisans.com.

September 02, 2003 : Watch Out!

You're a TV whore and, quite frankly, you know it. But you're not ashamed. You've got your premium cable, your best friend, Tivo, and really, what else does a person need? New shows, perhaps? A few that sound worthy of checking out:

The Freshman Diaries -- Showtime's new reality series that follows the lives of freshmen students at the University of Texas at Austin. Sex, drugs, final exams -- what more could one ask for?

Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica -- MTV tracks the lives of pop-star newlyweds Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey. Revel in Simpson's dumb-blond antics as she tries to figure out if 'Chicken of the Sea' is really chicken or fish.

Mix It Up -- Courtney Cox doesn't just play an obsessive-compulsive neat-decorating-freak on TV – she is one in real life. She'll put her hobby to the test as producer of Mix It Up, a new home decorating show on WE. If her taste in home decor is as eclectic as it is in men, this should be a treat.

September 01, 2003 : Flutter Sleeve Top: $9.99

Happy Labor Day hard shoppers of the world. I know the point of today is to not work, but now's not the time to get lazy -- now is the time to take advantage of the holiday/end of summer sales! Like at J.C. Penney. Sure, they have a lot of junk and boring stuff, but they've also got some snazzy finds too. Like this lil diamond in the rough. Great with denim and a blazer, it's great for the office and for going out. And it's only $9.99. Go, labor, be trendy.
