October 31, 2003 : The Weekend Buss: Halloween Treats

I know you wanna go out there, hide in the bushes and steal bags of candy from all those cute little brats, but you've got a waistline to maintain. Which is why I dig these candy-inspired glosses. Sugar Daddy lip gloss for $4.50, Reese's Pieces lip gloss pot for $3.50, Tootsie Roll lip gloss for $4.25, Jelly Belly cotton candy lip balm for $2.25. All calorie-free -- weehoo! Check these goodies out and more at claires.com, where you can find the store location nearest you and go pig out.

October 27, 2003 : Hey, Watch It: New Shows to TiVo!

Just because Newlyweds is over for the year, doesn't mean you should give up on TV altogether. Program your Tivos, Busstas, because new shows, they are a comin’. Here are a few highlights this week:

MON:

Born Rich: America Undercover: Airs tonight, October 27, at 10pm on HBO. A documentary by the heir to the Johnson & Johnson fortune, interviews with some of the country’s wealthiest heirs like S.I. Newhouse IV, Ivanka Trump, Georgina Bloomberg and more should make for good tele watching.

TUES:

Rich Girls: Premieres tomorrow, Tuesday, October 28, on MTV at 10:30pm ET/PT. Starring real-life rich girls Ally Hilfiger and Jaime Gleicher, follow the teens around as they shop til they drop and more on this new MTV reality series.

WED:

That '70s Show: Returns this Wednesday night, October 29, at 8 ET/PT on FOX. See what the gang's up to post-graduation. Will Demi guest star? Who knows, but I'll watch to find out.

THE OC: Everyone’s favorite soap-y indulgence returns this Wednesday at 9/8 central on FOX.

NEXT MON:

Average Joe: Premieres next Monday, November 3, on NBC at 10/9PM and is perhaps one of the most anticipated reality shows of the year -- so far, anyway. Starring a beauty queen/ former NFL cheerleader, she moves into a Palm Springs mansion with the expectation that 16 potential Prince Charmings are arriving to win her heart. The fun arises when the men turn out to be true Average Joes, with the beer guts and geeky personalities to prove it.

October 24, 2003 : The Weekend Buss: Snifferifics

I hate to be the one to break it to you, but you stink. Okay, not you per se, but your gym bag does have that not-so-fresh feeling. What to do about it? Toss a Snifferific in that bad boy and breathe easy. What's that, you ask? A cooly designed coaster-sized deodorizer that you can toss in any stinky locale -- lockers, desks, cars, bags -- to make it smell Snifferific! There are four scents to choose from including Tangerine, Suntan Lotion, Bubblegum and Poopy. I'm not sure about the Poopy, but Tangerine sounds lurverly. Get them for $4.95 each at russellandhazel.com.

October 23, 2003 : Indiosyncrasy Necklace: $48

With all those holiday parties right around the corner, your mind is probably on finding the perfect dress. Fair enough. But don't forget, once you find that perfect dress, you'll wanna find great jewelry (and shoes...and a bag...) to match. Let's focus on the jewelry for now. I'm currently in lurve with these necklaces at indiosyncrasy.com. Like this beauty -- an amethyst-colored choker named "mythical" for $48. I'm so in lurve, I decided to interview the designer of these gems myself. Check it out here, and while you're at it, check out her online shop. Merry jewelry shopping.

October 21, 2003 : The Urban Dictionary

You know those annoying people in the office who send out those 'Word of the Day' emails? Tell them to get off yo grill nizzle. That shizzle is whack, yo! If you wanted to learn some SAT words, you'd be watching Dawson's Creek reruns. Aight? If you have no idea what the above sentences mean, perhaps you should be browsing urbandictionary.com. It's money, pure money (that means "cool" you dumb biznitch)! My favorite word? "Slut: a woman with the morals of a man." To brush up on your street lingo, you cracker, head to the free and lux urbandictionary.com.

October 20, 2003 : Keryn Sweater: $34

One of the best things about fall, other than the weather, is getting to wear sweaters, but that doesn't mean you have to pull out the bulky, frumpy, only-comfy ones. Instead, why not cozy up in something like this? The adorable boatneck and argyle design with sweet accent ribbon is a great way to show your playful personality while staying warm. Snag it for $34 at delias.com.

October 17, 2003 : The Weekend Buss: House of Nathaniel James

If you're in the market for fresh, original, real designer duds, but for less than "real designer" prices, perhaps you should check out the House of Nathaniel James. New to the New York fashion scene, now's the time to take advantage of the unusually low prices. Like this great jersey halter for $30. Perhaps even more interesting is the designer's bio, which includes sewing crotchless panties with his mother at the age of six, and living in a tent just outside of NY in the dead of winter to make his fashion dreams come true. That in itself merits you taking a peek, no?

October 16, 2003 : Simply Vintage Tees

Vintage-inspired tees for the irreverent -- yes! With mottos like, "Detroit: Where the Weak Are Killed & Eaten" and "Stop Potato Violence," it'll be hard not to have people staring at your chest all day long. And in this case, that's a good thing. For more snarky tees, all around the $20 range, check out simplyvintage.com.

October 15, 2003 : Pamela Barsky: $6.50+

What a site, what a site, what a mighty fine site. Adorably and simply designed, pamelabarsky.com is a perfect showcase for Pamela Barsky's wonderful products. Using vintage fabrics, old t-shirts and a lot of imagination, Pamela creates great looking journals, lamps, scarf envelopes, mirrors, pillows and more. I'm particularly partial to the clever journals that say things like, "Have you ever noticed that om is just ow upside-down?" and "Sometimes I think life would be easier if I weren't so pretty" -- you know, things everyone can relate to. To score cool gifts for yourself and others you can visit her LA-based store or simply visit her online at pamelabarsky.com.

October 14, 2003 : Fabulous Affordable Vintage

I don't know about you, but I'm addicted to vintage. Maybe not vintage in the pure sense of the word, like designer vintage, but cool, used stuff. It's fun finding totally unique pieces that you know everyone else won't be getting at the mall. But I'm not into paying hundreds of dollars for vintage, I'm into bargain vintage. To that end, and to make sure I don't go broke buying everything for myself, here are some sites where you can score great finds. Dig away and you just might find that awesome mod dress or totally '80s bag you've been searching for. And for chump change nonetheless. And remember: Halloween's right around the corner -- vintage shops are great places to put costumes together!

October 13, 2003 : The Holiday Weekend Buss: Royal Elastics

In honor of Columbus Day, I present to you these badass kicks by Royal Elastics. Perhaps you don't see the correlation, but here's what I was thinking: Columbus was British, right? Which is like royal. Then he discovered America, hence our celebration of Columbus Day. That might slightly make sense in someone's world, if only he really were British. But, alas, he was not. He was born in Genoa (that's Italy for all you geography geeks out there). And his famous voyage was funded by Spain. So back to the point. These shoes have nothing to do with Columbus, but aren't they just the coolest? Available in lots of funky color combos, like bumble gum and powder pink, they're a cool $60 at royalelastics.com. And if you've seen the latest copy of Lucky mag, you know you can enter the code "luckymag" at checkout and get 25% off any online purchase, making them an even cooler $45. Now ain't that a royal kick in the pants? Here's to new discoveries -- fashion and otherwise.

October 07, 2003 : Petal Pimpin'

If you haven't noticed, flowers seem to make people smile. Perhaps that's why they're one of this year's most popular accessories. Though they're fragrance-free, they'll also never die on you and they're not even plastic -- double score! You can pick fabulous felt floral brooches at the always delightful frecklewonder.com for just $8.50 each, and snag fuzzy wool flowers at the super hip supermaggie.com starting at just $12 a piece.

October 03, 2003 : The Winter Weekend Buss

Since it's freezing (yes, freezing!) here in the Motor City, I've been searching for ear muffs and other things to keep a gal from turning into a frozen statue. Hence therefore to, I present to you The Winter Weekend Buss: a few fab winter accessories for your e-shopping pleasure, because, after all, it is too cold to leave the house and shop in person. Burrrrr.

Would you believe how hard it is to find ear muffs these days? Luckily I found these through some extensive Googling -- you're welcome. Fabulously faux fur muffs for $25. A definite must in my currently frigid opinion.

Also interesting, these sporty-looking ear muffs/headphones at J.C. Penney. Cuz a girl's still gotta have her music, right?

Now on to your hands. Don't forget to keep them moisturized! You don't want your hands to look 75 when you're only 25, got it? If you've been holed up in a cave, perhaps already hibernating, it may come as a shock to you that fingerless gloves and arm warmers are all the rage this season. Marc Jacobs makes some swell cableknit fingerless ones, but if you're not into paying $68 for them, I highly suggest these cuties by Dosty for $18. While you're there, you might as well get in on the adorably '80s leg warmers and the rugby socks and scarves, too.

Keeping with the bang-for-your-frost-bitten-buck theme, have you scoped out this deal at Target? Light blue faux-shearling mittens for $6.99. Cute and cozy.

And perhaps the mutha of all finds: Ugg-esque boots. Ugg boots are about $145, affordable for the likes of Kate Hudson, who's helped to popularize the cushy wonders. But if it's the look you're after, why not try these Emu marshmallow boots at Alloy -- they're just $39.99, plus you can not only get them in natural, but also in light pink and blue as well.

So there you have it. Happy weekend and bundle up! More fall and winter finds to come as soon as I defrost…
