April 30, 2004 : Mother's Day Gift Guide

Even though I'm technically not a mother doesn't mean I won't be celebrating Mother's Day (re: expecting gifts). After all BussBuss IS my baby, so it only makes sense that we should celebrate, no? Precisely. In the spirit of that, I've compiled some great gifts for the mom in all of us. Because really, there is just no need to give mom some cheesy plaque stating how much you love her -- just because she's given you the gift of life doesn't mean she's lost her sense of style -- and sanity. Well, not usually.

April 29, 2004 : Dine On the Cheap -- And Fast!

This one's not for the fashion-hungry per se, but for the just plain hungry. Restaurant.com is having a sweet little deal that expires tomorrow (so if you're gonna act, act fast) where you can purchase dining certificates for next to nada. Their normal offering is a $25 certificate for only $10, but today's deal gives you an additional 70% off. For those of us who are not math majors, I consulted with an expert, and that works out to paying $3 for a certificate where you get $25 worth of food. Sweet, I know. The only catch? There aren't a ton of restaurants to choose from and there is some fine print, such as they sometimes make you order a certain number of entrees and dine only at dinner time, but still a good deal on the whole. To get your fill, visit restaurant.com and on the front page, before you select your restaurant, enter coupon code 48831 where it asks, "Do you have a promotional code?" Bon appetit!

April 28, 2004 : Yummy Skirt, Ja!

BussBuss loves handmade goodies and it just doesn't get much cuter than this sassy Yumiyah skirt. The contrasting black and red makes me think naughty Valentine and the adorable flapper button makes me wanna get toasted and dance on the rooftops -- maybe not the safest combination, but adorable in terms of fashion. Snag this baby and other unique creations at the Salt Lake City-based yumiyah.com for just $22.

We're forever on the hunt for non-cheesy, non-boring thank-you cards, because let's face it, there are always so many people to thank. April 20, 2004 : Bow Peep

Are you a total bow ho? Then you'll dig this darling black tube top with pink bow accents. Black and pink is so Debbie Gibson circa 1987, but also so now. Funny how that's true. Scoop up your bowalicious throwback for $29.50 at windsorstore.com.

April 19, 2004 : Man, Oh Man

So I've been on the prowl for the perfect chaise lounge for a few years now. I was simply leaning towards this fab hot pink one until I saw this Bouloum Lounge Chair. He's available in red, orange, purple and grey (those searching for last-minute birthday gifts for me and are wanting to spend about a grand will know I want the red or orange) for $950 at hivemodern.com. If only he had arms to wrap around me on those cold, lonely winter nights…but you know what they say, no man is perfect.

Indulge in a refreshingly eclectic flavor this weekend, Blackberry Plum. The deep purple hues and fuchsia accents make for a flavorful treat for both the mouth and the eye. Kind of like our Couture a la Mode fashion party here in Motown next Saturday, April 24th (nice plug, right?). The word needs to get out though as it, too, will be full of flavor and sass. Enjoy these delectable ingredients! And next weekend enjoy them in person here!

April 15, 2004 : It's a Wrap

Some may think the whole shawl/poncho thing is over, but not me. I think it's a previously overlooked staple. So very Grandmama-chic. But what do I know? It's not like I'm The Apprentice or anything. I dig this very affordable vintage-inspired one from Urban Outfitters. Available in ivory or light pink, snag it for $48 at urbn.com.

April 14, 2004 : Sweet Feet

April 13, 2004 : Pieces of a Girl

Nothing says lovin' like personalized gifts. And it hardly gets more personal than this. Pieces of a Girl jewelry is a marvelous concept brought about by designer Lizzy Flanagan, where you first pick a price point (earrings start around $50, bracelets $120, necklaces $150) and then the designer customizes each piece depending on who the gift is for, what style and feel you're after, and what the person wearing the jewelry is like. Each piece comes in a signature Pieces of a Girl box with crimped paper and four cards strung together on white satin ribbon. The four cards include: the GIRL, and how to reach her (the designer), the STORY or notion, which she writes about the lucky soul you commissioned the jewelry for, the INGREDIENTS, including materials in your design and sentiments behind the piece, and the GREETING, something spectacular that you write to the elated recipient. Ideal for bridal parties, birthdays and Mother's Day, which is fast-approaching, you can order online now at piecesofagirl.com.

April 08, 2004 : Plant One Right Here

I know, I know, gardening seems so traditional. So Martha. So Nantucket. But it doesn't have to be that way. Instead, spruce up your porch with these modern hanging planters. The sleek stainless steel provides a nice contrast to the beautiful buds you'll be watering (yes, you do have to water them), and the industrial cable holds up to 25 lbs., making them as sturdy as they are purdy. Available in 8" and 10" sizes for $48 and $58 respectively at chiasso.com.

April 07, 2004 : Big Gulps

So remember how BussBuss was sick on Friday? Well, silly BussBuss thought it was all better on Monday, only to be completely and unpleasantly surprised when it woke up on Tuesday morning. The bug was back. Somebody get me a fly swatter! But I digress. After BussBuss was pretty sure it was going to die, yes die, it seems to have recovered yet again. But this time, it's not taking any chances. BussBuss has learned it needs two things: rest and water. Oops, make that three things: rest, water and a servant. Good help is so hard to find these days, but luckily a good water bottle isn't. We like this stylish one by Sigg for just $16. Scoop it up at the very stylish and ironically named happytuesday.com.

April 05, 2004 : Tiny Dancer

There are some things in life you just feel like you have to have or you will explode, nay implode -- even worse! This ballet tank is one of them. Like a tutu for your tatas, this sweet tee will have you up and on your toes faster than you can say "Baryshnikov." So whirl on over to L.A. designer Helen Kim's nahnuh.com, where you can adopt this top for just $40.

April 02, 2004 : The Weekend Buss: Bug Off

Due to a horrendously evil stomach bug that BussBuss has contracted, it cannot bear to consider a Flavor of the Week or anything flavorful for that matter. Sad, we know. Instead, please accept this Weekend Buss replacement -- a cozy Victoria's Secret sleepshirt. Cuz all BussBuss wants to do is curl up and die, er, we mean sleep…forever. Kidding! Not funny. Did we also mention that BussBuss is heavily medicated right now? But we digress, score the grey and pink sleepshirt for $19 at victoriassecret.com.

April 01, 2004 : Love Love

Believe it or not, the time has come where we're not allowed to pull the ol' weather excuse when it comes to exercising. Damn! But, if you need inspiration for lifting your expanding rumpus off of the couch, perhaps this darling lil tennis outfit will do the trick. Maybe you're no Serena or Venus, but you can look the part in this get-up. We love the Tennis Is for Swingers tank in this season's hottest colors (green and pink!), $38 at leftfieldnyc.com. Paired with a hot pink skirt, just $17.80 at forever21.com, and our very own Greenwich Girl preppy tote, $44 at bussbuss.com, your backhand will be the last thing people are checking out.
