May 28, 2004 : The Weekend Buss: Surf's Up
|
Even though it's a hideous 60 degrees in this part of the country -- and yes, I do realize it's almost June and that's it's sick, very, very sick, to be so chilly out -- I yearn to hit the beach. Instead I'll stay in and self-tan and buy cute beachwear online. Helping to accentuate my faux tan will be this incredibly cute Kelly green Hawaiian mini skirt. Pair it with a plain white tank and you've got yourself a great alternative to the cutoffs or cheesy cover-up you'd normally throw on top of your swimsuit. Scoop it up for just $24 at the Kentucky-based (I bet it's warm there, grrr) geneccentric.com.

Kick it in style this summer in these sexy cowgirl boots, as recommended by a faithful DailyBuss reader who first saw these babies in person at an Austin, Texas shop for $400. And Austin knows boots. Whether you rock them with jeans, cutoffs, skirts or dresses, you'll revel in the fact that you scored $435 handmade tan and pink boots for just $149.99! Pick 'em up at marshallfields.com.

May 26, 2004 : Vroom, Vroom!
|
The trickiest thing about spring is the inconsistency with the weather. Some days it's warm, some days it's cold, which makes layering essential. The key: well-cut blazers, jackets and sweaters, like this aqua-hued motorcycle jacket. Well-cut, not too heavy, not too light and brilliantly blue, you can pop in it for $59.99 at overstock.com.

May 24, 2004 : Getting Toasty
|
Mornings suck as it is. Which is why I make it a point to never, ever schedule anything before 2pm. It's just good common sense. But if you do have to drag yourself out of your cushy feather bed, you might as well do so with some semblance of humor. Here to help: these hilarious and adorable toasters, decked out with cow prints, pig faces and more. Apparently they're from France, and here we thought they only found Jerry Lewis to be funny. Scoop one up for $80 at citylimit.com. Perhaps waking up before noon isn't so bad after all. Nah.

May 20, 2004 : Shaker, Shaker
|
Remember the drama of HBO's Project Greenlight series and how they made The Battle of Shaker Heights out to be some wretched disaster? And then the audience ratings were really low, too, making you want to see it even less? If not, just pretend and say "yes." Well I've just seen the movie -- finally -- and thought it was adorable and really well done. Not awful, not spectacular, just sweet and heart-warming like a movie should be, damnit. Lil Shia LeBeouf is quirky and irresistible, as was the whole tone of this coming-of-age flick. Rent it for a few bucks at the video store (do people under the age of 15 call it the DVD store by the way??), or cough up the $26.99 to buy the DVD on amazon.com -- or even better, snag a used copy for $9.99. Roll credits.

May 17, 2004 : Playing Footsies
|
Having fun feet doesn't mean having to wear heels -- thank gawd. Since flip-flops have gone from floppy to flippy over the past few years, you have a lovely variety of fun and comfy options. We love these Kate Spade Bella flops. Available in blueberry, pink and white, a huge fabric flower makes these too fun to pass up. Sport them with just about anything except an evening gown for $65 at nordstrom.com.

May 12, 2004 : Turn Off the Lights, Turn Off the Lights
|
These kitschy, kooky, cool sleeping masks by Strawberry Jim give new meaning to the expression "counting sheep." With funny images like sheep in a field, cucumber slices, and spilt pills -- just to name a few, these comfy masks put traditional sleeping masks to shame. They know that just because you're snoozing doesn't mean you've lost your sense of humor. Scoop one up for your next plane ride, good night's rest, or nap at work for $28 at missprissboutique.com.

May 10, 2004 : Me So Crazy for Mikobella Designs
|
What's old is new, beautiful and cool again. Gotta lurve that. Tomicko Abella, California designer of Mikobella Designs, reconstructs, embellishes and alters vintage slips into stunning, modern slip dresses, tops and skirts, making each piece unique and one-of-a-kind. At BussBuss, we've flipped for the dresses for $85. Worn alone with strappy heels or over jeans for a funkier feminine look, each piece pops with color. Pick up a pretty lil number for yourself at mikobelladesigns.com.

May 07, 2004 : I'd Like To Place an Order To Go
|
More than once I've claimed, "I'm too young to cook," when questioned about my poor dietary standards. And while that grows less true every day, that won't stop me from purchasing one of the cleverest little items I've seen in a long time, this Takeout Menu Organizer. No longer shall I rifle through my junk drawer for my dinner options. Instead, I'll conveniently organize all my menus in this grease-resistant binder. Comes with an accessories pouch, six section dividers, 30 clear sleeves for menu storage, one order-taking pad, one pad of ratings stickies, two pens, two dry-erase pens for writing directly on clear sleeves, six interior pages with frequently called numbers, tips for takeout, a sheet of 38 cuisine tab labels, and the essay on the Definitive History of Takeout, all for only $28! Such a great gift for the friend who hates to cook, bachelors, or any city dweller really. Get your fill at the always forward-thinking shopintuition.com.

May 06, 2004 : Hippy Chicks
|
Okay, this is getting serious. Mother's Day is on Sunday, which means you need to get your act together like yesterday. You copy? You can still score mom gifts she'll love and that she won't have to return by swooping up some stylish accessories. We dig these Hip 2B Tied belts ($58) and reversible hats ($80) by Hollywood costume designer Deborah Everton. The best thing, other than how utterly cute they are, is that the belts are adjustable, fitting sizes 2-12, and the hats are one size too, fitting the average mom's cabeza, so you nearly guarantee mom will actually keep what you give her. Pick up these springy creations at the always chic online boutique shopstylecouncil.com.

Score this Hi Mom Hat for $10.80 at the very urban and cool karmaloop.com.

May 04, 2004 : Good, Good, Good, Good Libations

Oh, I'm picking up excitations all right. These 100% organic bath yummies are made by a registered nurse named Libby (hence the Libations moniker) in LA's artsy hipster community of Silverlake, California. A perfect gift for Mother's Day, highly recommended are the cocoa-cinnamon orange body butter ($18) and the honey and sweet brown suga' body scrub ($24). Both will leave mama soft and smellin' sweet! You can indulge at the awesome auntbeep.com, a cool online boutique showcasing fresh, talented Los Angeles designers and artists.

May 03, 2004 : Get Wired
|
I'm declaring hardware the next trend in accessories. It's a nice contrast to the girly girl direction we've taken as of late (and that I love), plus it's what I'm using in my own next collection. But back to the hardware in question: this awesome steel Trampoline choker by Wired. Believe it or not, you can pick it up for just $25 at virginthreads.com.
