August 05, 2008 : Birds of a Feather
|
Feathers have been an increasingly popular trend in fashion, but a girl can't wear a feathered flapper frock every day.
But she can sauce it up a little bit as often as she wants with one of these fab feather hair clips.
Keep the look from looking costumey or forced by pairing your feathered friend with a casual tee and jeans or a simple black dress.
Where to put a feather in your cap?
At the effortlessly cool Bona Drag.

July 29, 2008 : Get a Leg Up: Peacock Feather Tights
|
If Chanel's coveted two-tone tights are any indication, we'll all be knocking our socks off to get into drool-inducing tights and legwear this fall.
We say why not get a head start and make everyone you know envious with your avant-garde taste by scooping up a pair of these Look From London peacock feather tights while you can (because we are certain they will sell out as fast as those pricey Chanel numbers)?
Compared to $230, these seem like a steal at just $30 at ModCloth.

July 15, 2008 : Go To Sleep With Hambone and Jennicakes
|
After flying from San Francisco to Amsterdam to Norway to Amsterdam to Chicago, BussBuss is le pooh-ped. Jetlagged. Or, shall we say, jethagged.
And while we could go on about beauty solutions to make us look perkier, we'd rather just sleep.
All.
Day.
Long.
How to block out that gorgeous Chicago summer sun?
With a firecracker of an eye mask by Hambone and Jennicakes, of course.
We're sad we missed them at last weekend's Renegade Craft Fair in San Francisco, but thank the Internet gods and sfgirlbybay for leading us to them.

July 10, 2008 : Mayle Call: 60% Off Coupon Code

We've loved Jane Mayle ever since we dwelled in the same neighborhood as her fah-bu-lous Manhattan boutique.
But, we never could quite cough up the green to actually own any of the ah-mazing bags, accessories or clothing by the covetable designer.
Which is why we're SO excited to score this 60% off coupon code on her spring collection (thanks for the heads up Refinery29!).
We love the Circus Braid belt, originally $175, now just $70 with the code, as well as all of the bags. They're just so darling and different from everything else out there in Fashion Land.

June 26, 2008 : Iron Maiden: Fab Flat Iron Travel Cases
|
{Today's DailyBuss comes in the form of a Kelly's Klicks question from reader Tricia Mumby, who just happens to be one of the masterminds behind the brilliant mother must-have Mabel's Labels.}
Q. Hey Kelly! I have a dilemma and figure you're the girl with the answer! I paid a lot of money for a CHI flat iron that I LOVE. But when I travel, I haul it around in its original box. Does a gorgeous travel case not exist for flat irons? I can't seem to find such a creature.
A. First, the bad news: Finding a travel case for a flat iron is about as hard to find as a good man. Or, at least it was according to Flannery O'Connor.
Now, the good news: I'm not Flannery O'Connor, which means that didn't stop me from finding some really fabulous ones.
Thanks to the wonder that is Etsy and the creativity that oozes out of their crafter community, I came across the lovely Nancy Gamon. The Cincinnati-based designer has an eye for great vintage-style fabrics (including many Amy Butler faves) and makes one-of-a-kind curling iron travel cases that I know you'll love.
Each has a roomy interior that comfortably accommodates a variety of styling appliances, including straightening irons and large-barrel curling irons. The center divider keeps the warm iron separate from the electric cord for worry-free use (great for those of us who tend to always be running late!).
The entire case is lightly padded and lined with heat-resistant fabric and has an easy Velcro seal. Pouch dimensions (closed) are approximately 6" x 15" (15 cm x 38 cm).
Cases are $25 each and shipping to the U.S. or Canada is just $2.25.

Hook her up with a playfully chic Lauren Merkin business card case or laptop sleeve.
Since it's important to dress the part of the job you want and not necessarily the job you have, you'll be setting her up for success -- or, at the very least, making her the envy of all of her friends.

May 05, 2008 : Look 10 Lbs. Slimmer Without Exercising -- It's a Cinch
|
Happy Cinco de Mayo! Go ahead and enjoy those calorie-laden margaritas and that deelish guacamole because it's easier than ever to look 10 lbs. slimmer without actually exercising or dieting -- whew (because that sounds tres horrific)!
How?
By making the belt your new BFF.
Why?
Because the waist is back.
Worn with dresses, blouses, even over jackets and sweaters, defining your waist actually makes you look slimmer and more feminine (hello, instant hour glass).
We like styles both wide and slim -- just be sure to accentuate the positive by ignoring your belt loops and hips. The trick to that slimming, oh-la-hourglass effect is to wear your belts high, right under your ribcage (the smallest part of your waist).
Where to score tons of chic belts from designers like Michael Kors, Linea Pelle, Kooba and more marked down to really great prices?
Right here.
P.S. Remember, Mother's Day is this Sunday! Not to fret -- we've done the work. Shop our Top 10 Mother's Day Gift picks here!

April 17, 2008 : Hats Off to Unexpected Style
|
While we think the D-listers of Dancing With the Stars have faux-tanned to the point of needing dental records to recognize them, we are generally fans of safe tanning (re: getting it from a bottle). Not only are you helping to prevent skin cancer, but wrinkles as well. Whew -- a girl can use all the help she can get
And while ball caps are cute for workouts and um, ballgames, we think you can do better to protect yourself from the sun's rays this spring and summer while running around town and the beach with something chic, fresh and unexpected instead.
After lots of clicking around, we found the best prices and styles, from straw and chambray fedoras to stitched floppy numbers, here at Urban Outfitters.

April 16, 2008 : The Hills & Top 10 Spring Scarves!
|
Are you as obsessed with The Hills as we are? We'd bet our headscarves that you are.
Which is why BussBuss was so pleased to be asked to guest blog for celebrity style site SeenON!
The topic du jour? Our fave spring trend as seen on the la-la-ladies of The Hills: Spring Scarves!
Have you noticed LC, Whitney (our fave fashionista-in-training -- or b*tch-in-training as Kelly Cutrone so proudly noted), Audrina and, yes, even Heidi upping their style quotients lately by indulging in this chic trend?
Whether they're bold and bright, striped or solid, boho or black and white, this is one trend we highly recommend getting in on.
We dished our favorite Top 10 Spring Scarves and proclaimed that scarves are the new necklaces (we couldn't resist!).
Click here to check out SeenOn! and here to see the roundup on BussBuss!
P.S. Welcome SeenON! readers! We're thrilled to have you as part of our style insider's secret shopping society. Sign up for your DailyBuss {free!} email here to be the first to find out what's chic and unique!

April 01, 2008 : Do You DaWanda? Shop the Etsy of Europe!
|
Ever wonder what designers across the pond are up to? Not the big names you can get in every major city, but the independent designers you'd find on sites like Etsy here in the States?
Wonder no more.
DaWanda, the Etsy of Europe, will let you get your fix.
And even though exchange rates aren't exactly in our favor these days, you can still score great deals.
For instance, this darling teapot necklace made from polymer clay would make such a sweet birthday or Mother's Day gift and costs just $6 EUR plus $2 EUR to ship via USPS Priority Mail (if math hurts your head -- and we feel your pain, that means you'll pay about $12 and get your goodies from Sofia, the designer in Bulgaria, in 7-10 days).
It's like having a jet-setting BFF send you goodies from afar, a style pen-pal of sorts -- but better because you get to pick them out yourself.
Way more affordable than booking a ticket to Europe, stroll the virtual market and impress your friends with one-of-a-kind gifts, art and fashion.
Take a trip to DaWanda!

Born out of a love for early country club lifestyle, Gargyle aims to revive and modernize its spirit.
Think less Ralph Lauren and more Built by Wendy: younger, edgier, but still aspirational and supremely well-edited.
We're loving Valentine dresses, Samantha Pleet rompers, Giles & Brother jewelry, Lorick frocks (by the designer who ghost-designed Blair Waldorf's mom's collection on Gossip Girl -- that's a mouthful), United Bamboo and Rachel Comey shoes and Karen Walker sunnies.
There are lots of finds marked down hundreds of dollars, fitting our very non-country club budget.

January 28, 2008 : Prints Charming: For the Love of Hayden-Harnett
|
With Valentine's Day just about a fortnight away, it's only fitting to dish about our love of New York-based boyfriend-girlfriend design duo Hayden-Harnett.
We've waxed poetic about the up-and-coming label in the past. First there were those bags, then those darling coin purses and accessories, then their debut apparel line.
Now we feel like we've fallen in love all over again with their latest clothing and accessories offerings.
Their use of French artist Paule Marrot's prints and artwork (Jackie O. loved Marrot as well, so we're in good company) is brilliant. From the dresses to the trenches to the bags, it all feels very Diane von Furstenberg in the '70s, but with a distinctly modern and unique twist. Think mod-safari chic.
One visit will have you feeling like jetting off to somewhere exotic and doing something different for a change. Like showing up to work on time (imagine that), this time with all eyeballs on your fab new look.
While checking out all the new goodies, be sure to scoop up some fantastic finds in the sale section. They're going fast, so make like a cheetah -- remember, it's a jungle out there.

August 03, 2007 : Haute Shop of the Week: Zappos

We loved the original Zappos, the shoe site that also sold some handbags and became popular for their fab shipping and return policy: free shipping and free return shipping for 365 days.
But now we're over the moon. Why? Zappos now sells clothing too, including swimsuits. And yes, that same shipping and return policy applies. In fact, they now offer free overnight shipping on everything (seriously).
You know how we feel about instant gratification and it doesn't get more instant in the world of online shopping than free overnight shipping.

We're also loving Zappos Couture, which offers higher-end bags, shoes, accessories and clothing from Goldenbleu, Hollywould, Kate Spade, Cole Haan, Marc Jacobs, Sigerson Morrison, Costume National y muchas mas.

June 29, 2007 : Haute Shop of the Week: Modishoppe
|
In celebration of independent design and the success of her indie shopping blog Modish, Jen Coray opened the virtual doors to Modishoppe in April 2007.
Since, she's been featuring a coolly edited collection of handmade goods that span from handbags, hoodies and jewelry to paper, home and gifts. It's like shopping Etsy but with a really in-the-know friend (i.e. her keen eye for hip handcrafted treasures does the digging for you).
We're especially fond of the animal-laden accessories, such as the birdie keychains by Kwoozy and the elephant wristlets by Blissful. But we're not all about fauna, we need our flora fix too. Enter Brooke Medlin's rose-shaped earrings.
Both the beauty and the curse of Modishoppe is that Coray only carries a few (sometimes only one) of each item, so if you see something you love, scoop it up fast before it's gone forever. The upside? No fear of ever having the same thing as anyone else and a constantly changing collection.
Scope out all the current treasures here at Modishoppe.
P.S. Modishoppe loves BussBuss too and is offering 10% off with code bussmod at checkout exclusively to our readers!

June 22, 2007 : Haute Shop of the Week: Cut + Paste
|
As one of the first independent online shops on the block, Jenny Kwok's Cut + Paste has been helping pave the way for emerging designers and crafters since 2002 with its well-curated collection of handmade clothing, jewelry, accessories, paper products and more.
And it's only gotten better over the years, serving up gigantic doses of hipness and featuring over 300 designers along the way. The best part is knowing you'll never be wearing the same thing (or giving the same gift) as someone else when you shop at Cut + Paste.
If absolutely forced to pick favorites (it's like choosing your fave offspring), we'd point to Erica Weiner's cicada earrings, smil's love doll brooch, Desira Pesta's diamond print tunic, and pinecone & chickadee's cards.
But we suggest you set aside a few minutes (okay, hours... okay, days) to drool over all the Partners in Craft and find your own faves right here at Cut + Paste.

June 20, 2007 : Love, Me

Wedding season is in full swing and we can think of no bigger name in the wedding industry than Mindy Weiss. The 'it' celebrity wedding and party planner has lavished her chic taste on Jessica and Nick, Gwen and Gavin, Trista and Ryan and Charlie and Denise, to namedrop a few. And while not all the marriages have lasted, the stylish memories live on forever.
And now, with the opening of her new online bridal boutique and gift shop, even those of us not trailed by paparazzi can get our French-manicured hands on glam gifts, accessories, favors and more (even honeymoon and baby gifts too).
Imagine Plum Party meets Spoon Sisters with a sprinkle of girly sweetness thrown in for good measure. Love, Me serves up everything from hip flasks to vintage travel train cases to rhinestone and croc domino sets, lollypop favors, martini shakers and panties of the week.
Explore and find eternal fabulousness when you shop Love, Me.

June 15, 2007 : Haute Shop of the Week: Etsy
|
{Dying to see the Haute Shop of the Week? Let's get it on, style lover!}
We must confess, BussBuss has quite the addictive personality (very La Lohan of us, we know). In fact, we've considered checking into rehab on more than one occasion for our addiction to milkshakes, vintage dresses and cupcakes, to confess a few.
But our latest obsession these days has been over the indie goodness that is Etsy. In case you've been shopping under a rock for the past year or two, Etsy is the spot to find handmade clothing, accessories, home goodies and gifts direct from the artists, crafters and designers themselves (from all over the world).
Think of it as a hipster Ebay, minus the stress of bidding. The best part? Everything is surprisingly affordable (no retail markup rocks!) and you can bookmark your favorite sellers and then browse by who their fave sellers are too. It's never-ending indie awesomeness.
Discover your faves, and prepare to join us in rehab, here at Etsy.

December 04, 2006 : Tie One On
|
Keep flyaways in place on windy winter days -- or while cruising around in a convertible on your island escape this winter -- with a cool and uncommon headband by Aubrey Hyde. We love how each is hand-knitted and hand-dyed, plus we dig how the standout bow can take a drab outfit up several notches (perf for those days when you don't have a lot of time). All headbands come in a muslin bag with twill tape ties, making them a great and instant gift for girlfriends.
Check out the colors and find your fave right here at Stars and Infinite Darkness.

November 28, 2006 : Commit to Not Committing
|
Commitment phobes who have always pondered getting a tattoo but are too ADD to stick to a design can make fantasy reality – somewhat – with these goth-esque nude tights. The black roses look like tattoos and add a double-take factor to any ensemble. Turn heads in a pair, and relish in the fact that you can simply slip them off when you tire of your new 'too, at hipster-friendly shop Chocosho right here.

We're loving this Lulu Guinness scarf and it makes a great gift too. Plus, this one is 40% off here at Bluefly.

November 09, 2006 : Rockett St George
|
Recently we got a note from our friends across the pond letting us know they had opened up a brilliant new online gift shop featuring accessories, home goodies and more from some of the UK's freshest talent. At first click, we were in love. Kind of like the Mighty Flirt of the UK, the shop specializes in up-and-coming British-based designers. We're fawning over all the gorgeous prints-intense pieces like the bags, pillows and robes.
Find gifts for guys, kids, your home and, always most importantly, YOU, right here at the scrumptious Rockett St George (and yes, they ship to the US).

November 02, 2006 : Meet Me at the Plaza
|
Even with Oprah's endorsement yesterday of Cole Haan heels with Nike Air technology, we know in our hearts (and toes) that flats will always be comfier. Which is really important to grasp in a city where you constantly walk everywhere. Plus, ballet flats are chic and timeless in an Audrey Hepburn kind of way, and she is our all-time style crush, after all.
Right now we're loving these spotted Jeffrey Campbell flats at the amazing shoe, handbag and accessories shop Plaza Too. We're also swooning over the cute leopard headband, Murval wallpaper tote and fabulous riding boots, not to mention the Viv & Ingrid and Alexis Bittar jewels.
Discover your own favorites to complete your fall look right here at Plaza Too. Plus, score free shipping on orders of $200+ to anywhere in the U.S.

August 29, 2006 : Patent Pending
|
Three huge trends for fall? The color red, patent leather and belts cinched high on the waist. We believe all are great trends when rawked in moderation – red giving that pop of color we so often need, patent leather because it just looks so new and fresh (it's what sequins were last year – glossy and shiny but in a more sophisticated way) and cinched waists, showing we actually do have waists and are not amorphous blobs.
We're all for getting the trends in one easy piece, like with this darling red patent belt that is oh-so very cheap-chic. Pair it with your tops and even over your sweaters and coats and you'll be the glam '40s vixen you know you were destined to be. Nab the red beauty (and remember it should fit your natural high waist, not your hips like your low-slung jeans) right here at Delias.

August 11, 2006 : Not So Plain Mabel
|
We hadn't been by independent goods purveyor Plain Mabel in quite some time – and boy were we missing out. Things we never knew we couldn't live without include an erin originals wallet made of vinyl measuring tape, a Brooklyn Bags Ella the Elephant tiny tote and this Erica Weiner silver scissors necklace. Honestly, we must own this necklace, and luckily, at just $35, we can definitely afford to do so – hooray! It will look so haute layered with our recent Poison Apple finds. Scope out all of the quirky hipster goodies and find your can't-live-without faves right here at Plain Mabel.

July 27, 2006 : Total Haute Head
|
We heart the whole headband look. It's not only French schoolgirl chic, but practical too. After all, what better and cuter way to keep those flyaways out of your face on windy and humid days -- or any hair day from hell for that matter? Plus, if you've been watching The Hills like you know you have been but don't want to admit, you've probably been thinking the look is pretty darn cute when LC rawks it. You can pick up a basic black headband a la the Teen Vogue faux-tern (um, yeah that's what we're calling "fake" intern LC since the show is beyond staged) or choose from a slew of other solid colors and fun patterns (we think the cherry print is deelish) at the always-adorable Sparkle Craft right here.

April 18, 2006 : Get Mom Waisted This Mother's Day
|
Moms are the masters of multitasking, which is why giving Mom a glam gift for Mother's Day that also happens to be versatile is a huge score on your part. What do we propose? Getting Mom waisted, while giving her jewelry too. How to pull that off? With rock candy hip jewelry by Aila Designs. Intended as belts that can be strewn across the hips or looped through your favorite denim, each handmade belt, crafted from colorful imported glass beads, can also be rawked as a necklace. You can even design your own, which is a very grown-up way of giving Mom something handmade (and way better than those paper-and-paste creations you used to give her). Simply choose the color of beads (we heart the tutti fruiti mix and the carmel), select your closure (lobster, S clasp, suede or ribbon), then choose your size and number of strands and presto glamo, a gift Mom – and you – will love. Plus, Haute Shoppers score an exclusive 10% off when you use code HipMom at checkout, so go ahead and snag one for yourself while you're at it. Mom and daughter waisted together this spring, what could be better? Get started here.

April 04, 2006 : Buckle Up
|
The coolest way to accessorize those daring straight-legged jeans? With a super hip belt of course (preferably worn over a long top if you ask us). We're totally digging this blue antique key belt buckle by Steel Toe Studios, available at Indie Shopper. Or head to Steel Toe Studios and build an entire belt of your own. Designer Erica Gordon, a trained blacksmith, hand paints, distresses and patinas each belt and buckle, resulting in one-of-a-kind creations you're not going to find on everyone else.

March 20, 2006 : Bootylicious
|
In the transition from winter to spring, what are a girl's footsies supposed to do when she wants to rawk heels? Here's one clever gal's solution: pom pom booties. Perhaps the younger, hipper version of legwarmers, these 100% wool mohair booties fit snuggly over shoes and tie at the ankles for a look that is surely distinct -- very Alice in Wonderland meets rock princess in our opinion. March to the beat of your own style drummer, while keeping your feet cozy, in a pair of Laddhavan Sutana pom pom booties at Stars and Infinite Darkness (formerly Virgin Threads).

October 14, 2005 : Dry Sense of Style
|
If the rain must keep falling like it has for an entire week now, we might as well look chic traipsing through town in yet another downpour. How so? By sporting a wonderfully designed Tray 6 umbrella. With a comfy rubber ergonomically designed handle, an auto-open mechanism and a patented wind-resistant fiberglass rib frame, these umbrellas not only look good, but are good for you too (well, as good for you as an umbrella can be). If you're in rain-filled New York, pick one up in person at Rena Tom's new awesome Brooklyn shop Rare Device. Otherwise, score one online at the quirky and cool LA-based Aunt Beep.

May 31, 2005 : Rawk the iPod
|
Anyone who knows BussBuss knows we have a huge crush on Fred Flare. And today, we're crushing hard on all their cool iPod accessories. First it was the C. Ronson hoodies. Now it's these old skool cases by Incase ($36). They look like rad '80s boomboxes and cassettes, so you can fool those thugs on the subway who are trying to steal your iPod! Also cool, the kelly green iPod journal wallets ($75)! They have multiple pockets for your headphones, iPod and cash, plus a tiny notepad for playlists. We also love the cool metallic ones ($30) and the cute felt ones ($8). Check them all out -- your iPod needs a summer wardrobe too ya know! -- at fredflare.com.

April 07, 2005 : Cell Heaven
|
It's no secret that BussBuss lurves clouds. The question is why? Um, that can be summed up in four words: pouffy, white, fluffy, cute! So when we spotted this adorable cell phone case, we just had to share it. Made of practical neoprene to keep your cellie safe, it even has a rainbow strap and is too cute to be tucked away, so may we suggest strapping that baby to your handbag handles instead? Faboo. If clouds aren't your thing, there are plenty more styles (think stars, hearts, flowers, mod dots, stripes and leopard spots just to name a few), all for the very friendly price of just $10.99. Click here to scope them all out now!

March 08, 2005 : Such a Softy
|
BussBuss can't help it, she's fallen in lurve yet again. This time with the sweet felt creations by young French designer Lili la Malice. We're all about adding a little softness to the world. Especially divine: the cloud-shaped Dream Pouch ($28) -- perfect for tossing in random goodies, the Pea Pod Pouch ($20) -- just the right size for loose change, and the Bold Bangles ($26-$29) -- a new take on one of spring's hottest trends. To add some touchable softness and vivid color to your life, scope out lililamalice.com.

January 19, 2005 : Do You, Surfer Girl?
|
I am not a surfer girl, I am a Manhattanite through and through, but I have to say I LURVE the California-casual style. And the Pisces in me is drawn to the Zoe Belt by Betty Belts -- it makes me want to pack up and head for the coast! Designer and avid surfer Donna von Hoesslin takes her inspiration from her love of the ocean and the beach lifestyle, combined with the influence of 17 years of living in Europe. Zoe means "life" in Greek and the hand-beaded belt features inlayed mother of pearl fish, each of which is hand carved. Look closely and you will see that no two are alike. It has braided soft leather ties with matching hand-blown glass beads at the ends. Zoe comes in three colors, turquoise, pink and petrol, for just $26. Check it out, along with a bunch of cute others, at bettybelts.com.

November 11, 2004 : Zelda Style
|
Tick tock goes the holiday clock. First the Salvation Army Santas appear, then "Jingle Bells" saturates the airwaves, and bam, before you know it you'll be panicking about what to wear to all those holiday parties you've been invited to. Goodness, you're so friggin popular you make Paris Hilton look like a nun. But you can't spend a fortune on every dress. Which is just one reason we love this knockout number at Newport News. Besides the reasonable price tag of $69, the embroidered beauty makes us see visions of flappers dancing in our heads. And that we like. Perhaps it's the drop waist, or the lace detail. Whatever it is we're gonna toss on some strappy and sparkly heels and slippadyslide into this doozy of a dress at newport-news.com.

November 10, 2004 : Grumpy and Glam
|
Recently, someone who claims to love BussBuss, but who in reality is very, very cruel, has been making BussBuss wake up pre-noon (the horror!). BussBuss just wants its bottle and to go back to bed, yet she can't. She must persevere, grumpy, moody, sleepy and all. And to warn the rest of the world of her…well, let's just say "disposition," she's oh so glad she can just pop out one of these sassy compact mirrors that proudly proclaims "Grumpy Girl." To let the world know you're a Grumpy Girl, or Geeky Girl, Good Girl or Glam Girl, throw down a $10 spot at uncommongoods.com.

October 29, 2004 : The Weekend Buss: That's a Wrap
|
One of the strangest things we've seen in awhile, and therefore indubitably appropriate for the Halloween weekend, these sushi wrist pin cushions are quite practical as well. Why? Because clever crafters need clever craft supplies. Each stuffed felt sushi roll has an elastic wristband for easy access to your pins and needles while sewing or embroidering. Plus, everyone knows sushi is healthy for you. Indulge in a roll for just $10 each (hey, that's cheaper than some NY and LA sushi hotspots!), at the indie-lovin' plainmabel.com.

October 18, 2004 : Rose-Colored Glasses
|
Who could ever forget Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany's? No one, that's who. And for good reason, none of them having to do with the fact that she essentially was playing a call girl. No, what we can't and will never forget is the fashion. That lil black dress, those huge strands of pearls and those big, dramatic black sunglasses. Putting a new spin on the look is Soda Sunglasses with their black frames and rose pink shades. Divine dahling. Simply divine. Scoop up some instant Audrey style for $59 at luluboutique.com.

October 13, 2004 : O' Pink and Green
|
Ditch the stale business card holder and replace it with something just as practical, but much more fun, like this green and pink micro fiber one by Jazzd. Because being professional doesn't mean being styleless. Also makes a great going-out wallet -- just stash your ID, your credit card and a little cash and you're ready to roll. Snap it up for just $10 at superfabulous.com.

October 01, 2004 : The Weekend Buss: Leopards and Legwarmers
|
Shoes may make the man, but legwarmers and faux fur stoles certainly make the woman. Okay, that's not exactly right, but you catch my drift: Accessories are the eye candy that we're willing to breaks our diets for. And who knew Abercrombie was dishing up such cute ones this season. To wrap yourself in spots or make like a preppy '80s fashionista, head to abercrombie.com.

September 22, 2004 : Lovely Lulette Scarves
|
It's the first day of fall - yay! - which means cooler weather and cozier clothes. Cableknit sweaters, fitted blazers, cords, hats and the beloved scarf. Our fave? Lulette's lovely message scarves, like this one that says, "Cupcake Queen." Now wouldn't that be yummy with some Hey Cupcake BussARoos. Mmmmmmm. You can even customize your message or opt for a silly "Death Before Disco" or "I Love My Thrift Store" scarf. Whatever you want, you can pick it up at lulette.com.

September 16, 2004 : Voter Style
|
I know it often seems like we have to choose the lesser of the two evils, but it's undeniably better than not having a choice at all. So vote, vote, vote! In addition to exercising your right to vote, you can also display your voter pride in style with some snazzy vote wear and gear. I'm voting for this Nic Norman belt and tote, available at nicnorman.com. But that doesn't mean you have to. After all, this is a free country. Check out more vote wear and gear in Kelly's Klicks!

September 13, 2004 : Pen One On
|
There's a lil ol' saying, "Writers write." But really, in today's Internet-whore world, shouldn't it be, "Writers type?" So sad we all are! If the fact that you no longer remember how to write in cursive isn't motivation enough, and all the wonderfully designed stationery out there isn't enough enticement to get you jotting a few lines, let these awesome pens by Acme Studios inspire you to write with (gasp!) pen and paper. Snag an artfully designed pen for yourself for $55 at moca.org.

July 08, 2004 : Bon Voyage!
|
BussBuss lurves lurves lurves you, but needs a little break -- it's not you, it's me! Kidding…the real reason BussBuss needs a mini-break is because that big beautiful baby is moving her tuchis to the Big Apple that never sleeps! Uh, what? That's right, we're relocating to New York City! So, for the next week, BussBuss will be on hiatus (how very Hollywood!) as it attempts to find a new place to rest its style-lovin' head. Wish us luck! We'll be back soon to bring you lots more fab finds, but til then, we'll leave you with one grandiose Buss to tide you over!
Eight is Great! Introducing 8 sites we love to shop and hope you will, too:
cutxpaste.com: We love this indie online consignment shop so much that we never feature it because we wanna keep all the goodies for ourselves! Not cool, but the goodies are! Check out the rawkin' reconstructed t-shirts and skirts -- BussBuss faves!
ibuydiy.com: The first place you should head when you want one-of-a-kind goodies and have hours to surf!
fredflare.com: Childhood memories are forever conjured up when BussBuss shops Fred. Why? Because there's so much cute (and affordable) '80s-inspired stuff to be had! Check out the Bambi Couture…
alphabetsnyc.com: When on the prowl for super unique and odd hostess gifts and regular gifts, BussBuss can be spotted in the e-aisles of this kooky shop. We heart kooky.
blissen.com: The thrill of swooping up fabulously handcrafted, limited-quantity wares is too much for the big double Buss to resist. Right now, we'd kill to adopt a Jill-Bird! And we don't even like birds!
uncommongoods.com: When BussBuss needs a gift or fantasizes about how she'll decorate her new casa, she heads here!
forever21.com: When BussBuss needs a fix for the trendy but super cheap, you can find her pretending she'll forever be 21 here.
wishingfish.com: When BussBuss wants to see the best and cutest gift ideas, she swims with the wishing fishies. Their well-curated selection makes BussBuss pucker up.

June 10, 2004 : STOP or My Dad Will Shoot
|
Ladies with an attitude, fellows that were in the mood: STOP! I've found the best gift you can give Pops for Father's Day, and it's a gift to yourself -- score! Every teen girl should be required to wear one, in fact. A "Stop" or "Do Not Enter" belt. For the realz. So cute, so funny, so necessary (saw Mean Girls last night, so we're quite serious about the law to make all teens wear them. Highly recommend Mean Girls if you haven't seen it). Snag a belt, or five, for about $12 each at funbelts.com.

June 02, 2004 : Preppy is a Cinch
|
Preppy summer grosgrain ribbon belts, a staple of country club life. But you can get in on the look, minus the club dues, with one of these crisp Sandy Duftler belts. The pink multicolored ($34.95) and the lime nylon ($29.71) will add oomph to any outfit, but it's the studded white leather and hot pink ribbon ($67.96) that makes my heart race. The rare cross between preppy and edgy is available at bluefly.com.

We dig these Hip 2B Tied belts ($58) and reversible hats ($80) by Hollywood costume designer Deborah Everton. March 16, 2004 : Spank This!
|
If I'm going to break down and wear a belt, you better believe it's going to be an awesome customized one. I've found two fab options on the web. If you've already got the belt and just need a rawkin' buckle, then head to naughtysecretaryclub.com. For $25, you can pick from a funky selection of backgrounds or send in your very own image and then have it put on either an oval or rectangular buckle. Another great option, especially if you're looking for a nice selection of belts, is nicnorman.com. You can email or snail mail any image you want, chose from six different belt straps and five types of buckles, and then chose to have the image put on the buckle as is, or to have it graphically enhanced into a very urban-artsy type image. You can also opt for a belt with your name or your initial on it, or choose from a selection of girly, urban and mod styles. Prices range from $75-$95.

October 03, 2003 : The Winter Weekend Buss
|
Since it's freezing (yes, freezing!) here in the Motor City, I've been searching for ear muffs and other things to keep a gal from turning into a frozen statue. Hence therefore to, I present to you The Winter Weekend Buss: a few fab winter accessories for your e-shopping pleasure, because, after all, it is too cold to leave the house and shop in person. Burrrrr.
Would you believe how hard it is to find ear muffs these days? Luckily I found these through some extensive Googling -- you're welcome. Fabulously faux fur muffs for $25. A definite must in my currently frigid opinion.
Also interesting, these sporty-looking ear muffs/headphones at J.C. Penney. Cuz a girl's still gotta have her music, right?
Now on to your hands. Don't forget to keep them moisturized! You don't want your hands to look 75 when you're only 25, got it? If you've been holed up in a cave, perhaps already hibernating, it may come as a shock to you that fingerless gloves and arm warmers are all the rage this season. Marc Jacobs makes some swell cableknit fingerless ones, but if you're not into paying $68 for them, I highly suggest these cuties by Dosty for $18. While you're there, you might as well get in on the adorably '80s leg warmers and the rugby socks and scarves, too.
Keeping with the bang-for-your-frost-bitten-buck theme, have you scoped out this deal at Target? Light blue faux-shearling mittens for $6.99. Cute and cozy.
And perhaps the mutha of all finds: Ugg-esque boots. Ugg boots are about $145, affordable for the likes of Kate Hudson, who's helped to popularize the cushy wonders. But if it's the look you're after, why not try these Emu marshmallow boots at Alloy -- they're just $39.99, plus you can not only get them in natural, but also in light pink and blue as well.
So there you have it. Happy weekend and bundle up! More fall and winter finds to come as soon as I defrost…
