August 07, 2008 : Hunted: amykathryn Elephant Tote
|
On the hunt for a fab new bag that doesn't have logos all over it and isn't just one big hunk of leatha (Stella would be so disappointed)?
Meet the irresistible elephant carryall tote by amykathryn.
Decked out with elephants (a custom print on ultrasuede by designer Amy Hall) -- but in a very grown-up way, we love that it's totally animal-friendly (we bet Natalie Portman would totally dig that it's made of faux leather, too).
We also love the bright pop of yellow against the bronze copper handle and trim, which makes it equally fabulous for summer as it will be for fall.
The best part? It's under $100.
Scoop one up before they're extinct.
Where?
Edge of Urge.

July 10, 2008 : Mayle Call: 60% Off Coupon Code

We've loved Jane Mayle ever since we dwelled in the same neighborhood as her fah-bu-lous Manhattan boutique.
But, we never could quite cough up the green to actually own any of the ah-mazing bags, accessories or clothing by the covetable designer.
Which is why we're SO excited to score this 60% off coupon code on her spring collection (thanks for the heads up Refinery29!).
We love the Circus Braid belt, originally $175, now just $70 with the code, as well as all of the bags. They're just so darling and different from everything else out there in Fashion Land.

June 20, 2008 : Hey Paula: Take the Henry Road + 20% Off!
|
We've gushed over Henry Road designer Paula Smail's groovy prints and colorful global style in the past and are so excited to see her latest collection of pillows, bags, aprons, tablecloths, runners, journals and more.
The poppy, colorful graphics put us in the mood to host a sun-drenched summer party with good food and friends. And that just makes us happy. And, really, isn't that what good design is all about?
We also love that we can get a dose of Henry Road on the go in handbag form, too. The totes are perfect for hopping and shopping around flea markets, rummaging through vintage stores for hidden treasures and traipsing the globe stylishly.
The best part?
Paula's giving BussBuss readers an exclusive 20% off with code BUSSHR20 at checkout through July 15, 2008.

May 30, 2008 : SATC Style: Margaret Nicole Bags
|
Happy SATC: The Movie day, dahlings! Doesn't it feel like a national holiday?
Like many of you, we're so excited to see The Movie and have been trying to avoid spoilers with the dedication and intensity of an eight-year-old trying to avoid lima beans, but are hesitant the film will ruin the entire series for us. We love our vintage Sex and the City, thank you very much.
The clothes. The shoes. The bags!
Speaking of the bags, we always loved the sweet cableknit clutch Carrie...well, carried in a few episodes. It was a little off-kilter, a little vintage, a little sweet and a whole lotta chic -- just like her.
Want one for yourself?
Head to Margaret Nicole, the independent designer label who started the whole trend (must be flattering to then be knocked off by all the major fashion houses).
While there, scope out the charming clutchettes, too. It's a fab way to get a lot of style in a little package -- plus, they make such great gifts for the fave girlfriends in your life.

May 29, 2008 : Chic Grad Gift: Lauren Merkin Laptop Love
|
Got a grad in your life that you want to gift, gorgeous?
Hook her up with a playfully chic Lauren Merkin business card case or laptop sleeve.
Since it's important to dress the part of the job you want and not necessarily the job you have, you'll be setting her up for success -- or, at the very least, making her the envy of all of her friends.
Which, let's face it, is sometimes just as rewarding.

May 28, 2008 : Small Is the New Big: Lolli by reincarnation Clutch
|
Small is the new big. At least when it comes to handbags.
Seriously, we girls will sacrifice a lot for the sake of fashion, but scoliosis shouldn't be one of them.
Which is why we've fallen hard for these Lolli by reincarnation chain clutches.
Pick from a slew of lambskin hues, then opt for either a silver or gold chain. The fab part is that the chain is so thin, yet durable, and looks like it could be a necklace. Making it perfect for going out at night and being hands-free, or for running around the city and having plenty of hands free for shopping and your latte -- or milkshake.
Just pop in your essentials: phone, credit card, lipgloss, keys and you'll look vintage glam in a snap and, more importantly, be super comfy too.

May 19, 2008 : Go Green, Save Green: The Cutest Bag for $5?!
|
As much as we love pristinely manicured nature, we're getting a little tired of hearing "green" all the time. Unless someone's slipping some in our wallets.
So we were a little jaded when we heard about yet another company making reusable bags to take the place of plastic bags in the grocery store.
How many tote bags can a girl have, after all?
Several more it turns out.
Meet Neela, a new company started by two girls like us who wanted to be kind to the environment, but were intimidated by what they thought that meant.
Luckily, they figured out that with even small changes such as using their cute reusable bags in place of paper or plastic for a year, you could save nearly 1000 bags from certain death in a landfill near you.
We love all the brilliant colors, prints, sizes and styles and can't get over the fact that they start at just $5 each.

April 23, 2008 : The Perfect Bag for Mother's Day
|
Doesn't it seem like most moms value practicality over anything else?
Indulge your Mom this Mother's Day and help her hop on the green bandwagon at the same time with the perfect market tote.
Modeled after shopper bags chic Europeans have been toting for years, we're smitten with this one because it can hold a ton in the main compartment, has four grommet air holes at the bottom corners to let groceries breathe and two flaps that zipper closed. With six bottle pockets on the outside, you can carry bottles securely and well balanced (we won't tell if there's more wine than water).
There's even an inside zipper pocket, a cell phone pocket, a tiny plastic pocket to hold change for the parking meter, a removable zipper pouch to use as a makeup bag or wallet, handles and shoulder straps.
In a nutshell, the perfect bag.
It would also make a great gym bag, diaper bag or even picnic basket, so why not treat Mom to the perfect bag and a fun mother-daughter picnic this Mother's Day?
Score it at one of our favorite gift shops, The Spoon Sisters.
P.S. The Spoon Sisters are treating BussBuss shoppers to an exclusive 15% off your entire order with code bussmom through May 31, 2008!

April 15, 2008 : Bag Love: Sabina New York
|
Last year in New York, we picked up a great bag from a shop in our old neighborhood called Sabina.
It ended up being the bag we carried practically every day and we wanted to share it with you here, but at the time you couldn't buy the bag online -- le sigh.
But now you can.
The best part? They've improved and updated the design.
Why we love it so?
Perfect shape, super comfy straps, great boho-chic look, but mostly we love the fabulous two big pocket compartments on the outside. It's like having two wallets that you never have to dig for.
We keep our iPhone in one and ID, metro card, credit card and keys in the other, leaving plenty of room inside for an eco-friendly water bottle and makeup bag. We toss a magazine in the back slit pocket and are happy as a Kardashian in a clothing store. It's great for the girl on the go and makes traveling so much easier.
Available in tan or fern exclusively here.

Is it wrong to teach our most perfect niece her ABCs by snatching up one of these totes in each letter of the alphabet?
If so, how about the fact that we need yet another tote bag to help save the environment?
And that we'd be supporting independent designers in the process?
Independent designers and our growing font fetish.

April 10, 2008 : Shop We Love: b*fly by Bluefly
|
Our friends over at Bluefly, purveyor of designer looks for less, just sent word that they launched b*fly, a new online boutique that links haute couture with casual wear.
In their own words: "b*fly breaks free of the shopping norms by enabling modern fashionistas to shop by trend and to mix and match b*fly's new contemporary casuals with their favorite couture pieces from Bluefly.com."
In other words, they realize people with great personal style don't dress head-to-toe in one designer and it's all about the mix (hello Kate Moss) and wanted to add much more hip, up-and-coming designers to their current roster of more established designers.
The best part? Like at Bluefly, the items on b*fly are up to 40% off.
Is there a chic way to say woohoo?
We're loving that bags by Rebecca Minkoff, Bulga, Goldenbleu, Alexis Hudson, Kooba and Kale are now much more affordable and that we can essentially find all the brands we love from sites like Shopbop and Pink Mascara always on sale (apparel by J Brand, Hudson, Twelfth Street By Cynthia Vincent, jewelry by Lee Angel, CC Skye, Rachel Leigh, shoes by Marc by Marc Jacobs, Michael Kors, Frye).
Pretty fly.

April 07, 2008 : New Map City: Paris, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Beyond!
|
Save for cupcakes and milkshakes, there's not much BussBuss loves more than traveling.
Which is just one reason we're so in love with these chic city totes.
Besides being adorable and oh so very practical (no more fussing with unsightly maps when you're visiting your favorite locales), Maptotes are also very eco-fabulous, as they make a great replacement for any plastic bag.
Also, being the typography junkies we are, we totally dig how the fonts match the vibe of their respective cities.
At just $15 a pop, it's never been easier to travel the world (and your fave nabe) in style.

April 01, 2008 : Do You DaWanda? Shop the Etsy of Europe!
|
Ever wonder what designers across the pond are up to? Not the big names you can get in every major city, but the independent designers you'd find on sites like Etsy here in the States?
Wonder no more.
DaWanda, the Etsy of Europe, will let you get your fix.
And even though exchange rates aren't exactly in our favor these days, you can still score great deals.
For instance, this darling teapot necklace made from polymer clay would make such a sweet birthday or Mother's Day gift and costs just $6 EUR plus $2 EUR to ship via USPS Priority Mail (if math hurts your head -- and we feel your pain, that means you'll pay about $12 and get your goodies from Sofia, the designer in Bulgaria, in 7-10 days).
It's like having a jet-setting BFF send you goodies from afar, a style pen-pal of sorts -- but better because you get to pick them out yourself.
Way more affordable than booking a ticket to Europe, stroll the virtual market and impress your friends with one-of-a-kind gifts, art and fashion.
Take a trip to DaWanda!

Born out of a love for early country club lifestyle, Gargyle aims to revive and modernize its spirit.
Think less Ralph Lauren and more Built by Wendy: younger, edgier, but still aspirational and supremely well-edited.
We're loving Valentine dresses, Samantha Pleet rompers, Giles & Brother jewelry, Lorick frocks (by the designer who ghost-designed Blair Waldorf's mom's collection on Gossip Girl -- that's a mouthful), United Bamboo and Rachel Comey shoes and Karen Walker sunnies.
There are lots of finds marked down hundreds of dollars, fitting our very non-country club budget.

January 28, 2008 : Prints Charming: For the Love of Hayden-Harnett
|
With Valentine's Day just about a fortnight away, it's only fitting to dish about our love of New York-based boyfriend-girlfriend design duo Hayden-Harnett.
We've waxed poetic about the up-and-coming label in the past. First there were those bags, then those darling coin purses and accessories, then their debut apparel line.
Now we feel like we've fallen in love all over again with their latest clothing and accessories offerings.
Their use of French artist Paule Marrot's prints and artwork (Jackie O. loved Marrot as well, so we're in good company) is brilliant. From the dresses to the trenches to the bags, it all feels very Diane von Furstenberg in the '70s, but with a distinctly modern and unique twist. Think mod-safari chic.
One visit will have you feeling like jetting off to somewhere exotic and doing something different for a change. Like showing up to work on time (imagine that), this time with all eyeballs on your fab new look.
While checking out all the new goodies, be sure to scoop up some fantastic finds in the sale section. They're going fast, so make like a cheetah -- remember, it's a jungle out there.

January 16, 2008 : It's In The Bag: Oprah's Purseket Purse Organizer

Yesterday's Oprah was a bit of a letdown when Christian Louboutin himself didn't appear on the show as planned (due to illness) and only one person in the audience received a pair of his coveted shoes (seriously?!), but her Container Store segment did remind us of how great the purse organizer Purseket is.
Sure, it's been around for quite a few years now, but if you're a girl whose handbag is a black hole and you can never find what you're looking for, or you simply change out your bags more often than LiLo, it's also a must-have.
And a very affordable one too.

January 07, 2008 : Loeffler Randall for Less

We've been loving Loeffler Randall for about as long as any self-respecting design addict (i.e. ever since designer Jessie Randall and her hubby's adorable Brooklyn flat were featured in Domino many, many months ago). And yes, we did buy the For Like Ever poster.
But as much as we crave Loeffler Randall -- the shoes! the bags! the coats! -- we can't always swallow the prices.
Which is why we're super excited about the new Loeffler Randall for Target collection.
While we were saddened there were no cute coats in the Target collection, the chic-meets-cheek bags and shoes are a good way to sample the up-and-coming brand without sacrificing next month's rent money.

Currently on our wishlist? Scented lollipop earrings, classic pink-wheeled roller skates, a cozy pony scarf, the Holly Golightly sleep mask and a gemstone newsboy cap, cuz a girl can never have too many jewels.
We also love the kawaii cute grocery totes, which prove that going green doesn't have to mean boring.

August 03, 2007 : Haute Shop of the Week: Zappos

But now we're over the moon. Why? Zappos now sells clothing too, including swimsuits. And yes, that same shipping and return policy applies. In fact, they now offer free overnight shipping on everything (seriously).

July 24, 2007 : Introducing MABeL

Always on the style hunt for great handbags, we've giddily found our next prey. And a designer we're sure is a rising star in the design world.
MABeL handbags by Jessica Miller-Webster is a young, cool collection of ruffle totes, oversized bow bags, heart-handle clutches and more handmade in Chicago by the designer herself.
The aesthetic? Think Betsey Johnson meets Marc Jacobs. Something that cleverly tows the line between Teen Vogue and Nylon.
These are bags with personality that stand out on their own, but maintain a hip sophistication. Think contrasting color and print linings for girls who embrace their inner child. Are you a city girl who sees her bag as her car? These bags are for you.

July 13, 2007 : Haute Shop of the Week: Net-a-Porter
|
We love entrepreneurs, especially ones who fill a niche and are passionate about what they're doing, whether it's the salacious Perez Hilton or the clever Sarah Blakely of Spanx fame.
Which is exactly what chic entrepreneuress Natalie Massenet did (see her write-up in this month's Vogue July issue). As the founder of Net-a-porter (a cheeky play on pret-a-porter), she serves up delicious doses of luxury designer goodies that you can't find anywhere else online.
Think clothing, bags, shoes and accessories by Chloe, Miu Miu, Marc Jacobs, Fendi, Oscar de la Renta, 3.1. Phillip Lim, Christian Louboutin, Alexander McQueen, Michael Kors and Stella McCartney, to namedrop a few.
We love scouring the sale section, where we're currently drooling over these glam Miu Miu ballerina flats and pintuck dress (both half off!).
If you're a luxe-loving designer darling, find your faves by shopping Net-a-porter.
P.S. Wonder what happened to Girlshop? They closed their doors last month, but never fear, Net-a-porter purchased Girlshops's customer list and is offering their higher-end wares to Girlshop refugees.

June 29, 2007 : Haute Shop of the Week: Modishoppe
|
In celebration of independent design and the success of her indie shopping blog Modish, Jen Coray opened the virtual doors to Modishoppe in April 2007.
Since, she's been featuring a coolly edited collection of handmade goods that span from handbags, hoodies and jewelry to paper, home and gifts. It's like shopping Etsy but with a really in-the-know friend (i.e. her keen eye for hip handcrafted treasures does the digging for you).
We're especially fond of the animal-laden accessories, such as the birdie keychains by Kwoozy and the elephant wristlets by Blissful. But we're not all about fauna, we need our flora fix too. Enter Brooke Medlin's rose-shaped earrings.
Both the beauty and the curse of Modishoppe is that Coray only carries a few (sometimes only one) of each item, so if you see something you love, scoop it up fast before it's gone forever. The upside? No fear of ever having the same thing as anyone else and a constantly changing collection.
Scope out all the current treasures here at Modishoppe.
P.S. Modishoppe loves BussBuss too and is offering 10% off with code bussmod at checkout exclusively to our readers!

As one of the first independent online shops on the block, Jenny Kwok's Cut + Paste has been helping pave the way for emerging designers and crafters since 2002 with its well-curated collection of handmade clothing, jewelry, accessories, paper products and more.
And it's only gotten better over the years, serving up gigantic doses of hipness and featuring over 300 designers along the way. The best part is knowing you'll never be wearing the same thing (or giving the same gift) as someone else when you shop at Cut + Paste.
If absolutely forced to pick favorites (it's like choosing your fave offspring), we'd point to Erica Weiner's cicada earrings, smil's love doll brooch, Desira Pesta's diamond print tunic, and pinecone & chickadee's cards.
But we suggest you set aside a few minutes (okay, hours... okay, days) to drool over all the Partners in Craft and find your own faves right here at Cut + Paste.

June 15, 2007 : Haute Shop of the Week: Etsy
|
{Dying to see the Haute Shop of the Week? Let's get it on, style lover!}
We must confess, BussBuss has quite the addictive personality (very La Lohan of us, we know). In fact, we've considered checking into rehab on more than one occasion for our addiction to milkshakes, vintage dresses and cupcakes, to confess a few.
But our latest obsession these days has been over the indie goodness that is Etsy. In case you've been shopping under a rock for the past year or two, Etsy is the spot to find handmade clothing, accessories, home goodies and gifts direct from the artists, crafters and designers themselves (from all over the world).
Think of it as a hipster Ebay, minus the stress of bidding. The best part? Everything is surprisingly affordable (no retail markup rocks!) and you can bookmark your favorite sellers and then browse by who their fave sellers are too. It's never-ending indie awesomeness.
Discover your faves, and prepare to join us in rehab, here at Etsy.

May 23, 2007 : Alena Hennessy
|
Towing the line between subtle and bold may seem impossible, but it's something Alena Hennessy does very well. Known for her dreamlike flora and fauna paintings and bird sculptures, we're completely smitten with her latest line of totes, tees, pillows and extra-long wrap scarves (convenient since summer scarves are haute this season -- not to mention we're always cold and they make great travel companions).
We especially adore the graphic Giorno Horse tote -- it seems like something Kelly Wearstler would wear on one of her shopping expeditions and makes the perfect day bag whether you're hunting for cool antiques or fresh produce (okay, Cookie Crisp) at the local market.
The pillow version is tempting too, as is the Sera Birds pillow and the Feather Necklace top.
Luckily, since BussBuss readers get an exclusive 20% off with code BUSS20 at checkout through June 23, 2007, we can nab everything on our wishlists right here at Alena Hennessy.

May 03, 2007 : Posh Across the Pond
|
It's hard to find a simple bag, with some spice, that can multitask, but our fave neighbors across the pond did.
The Silver Shopper Bag at Rockett St George is as good for toting groceries as it is your daily necessities like your files, lip gloss and light laptop or your gym essentials. Spot-on with spring's big trend of metallics, the glittering silver tote features a pop of hot pink with the interior lining and goes with literally everything in your closet.
Pick one up, and check out all of the new goodies like chic home accessories, fabulous gifts and more, right here at Rockett St George.
P.S. BussBuss readers receive an exclusive 20% off everything at Rockett St George with code BussBuss at checkout through May 31, 2007.

May 01, 2007 : Change Is Good
|
Lately we've been obsessed with itty-bitty bags like these darling Chubby Change Purses at Free People and the cuddly Clutchettes at Margaret Nicole. Perhaps it's our constant need to anthropomorphize everything, but we'd like to adopt one in each color and add them to our fashion family.
Or, maybe it's our personal backlash against all of the ginormous bags ruling the runways for the past few seasons. Or, maybe we just want to get organized. Um, right. Whatever it is, we think these lil bags also make really cute gifts, whether for Mother's Day or for your BFF's birthday.
Scout your faves here at Free People and at Margaret Nicole.

April 17, 2007 : Sweet Eco-Chic
|
In honor of Earth Day, we'll be highlighting all things green and eco-chic on the design scene this week. Fortunately for fashionistas and style lubbers everywhere, eco and chic are no longer mutually exclusive terms. Case in point? The new spring 2007 line from Ecoist handbags.
Hitting on one of spring's biggest trends, futuristic metallics, the one-of-a-kind handbags are crafted from discarded candy wrappers (sweet!), making doing good and looking good as easy as eating a Mr. Good Bar.
Scope out the whole line, including bags crafted from movie billboards and soda can tabs, right here at Ecoist.

April 06, 2007 : O Say, Can You Halsea
|
While we love vacay as much as the next high-maintenance girl, we utterly loathe baggage claim. And no, it's not because of the waiting game -- it's because of the sea of sameness whirling around the carousel. Seriously, another black bag?
Break the cycle and say bon voyage to boh-ring with a Halsea bag. Made with the happiest beach-chic prints (we're suckers for seahorses), nab a new rollie and you'll never have to wonder which bag is yours again.
Be sure to check out the darling sunglasses cases, cosmetic bags, weekend bags, totes and tennis racket covers too -- pretty much everything you need to jetset in style, save for a martini and a mysterious stranger -- right here at Halsea.
P.S. BussBuss readers score an exclusive 20% off with code BUSS20 at Halsea through May 6, 2007!

April 03, 2007 : Complaint-Free Style
|
Oprah and the Today show recently had on Rev. Bowen of Christ Church Unity to discuss his 'Complaint Free World' campaign (we won't complain about the lack of a hyphen in that title).
If you're not in the loop, you're basically supposed to sport a purple rubber bracelet, a la the Lance Armstrong ones, that reads 'a complaint free world' on one arm for 21 days (supposedly how long it takes to break a habit). If you catch yourself complaining, you move it to the other wrist.
While we're all for hearing peeps kvetch less and couldn't agree more that complaining sucks (seriously, what a downer), we're not as keen on the purple bracelets.
Instead, we propose that you rock one of these 'sometimes I get tired of my own b*tching' totes. If you wanna get hip to la revolucion and support it in your own way, pick up an Angry Little Girls tote here at Satinbox.

January 02, 2007 : A Fresh Start
|
Happy New Year! After an eventful 2006 and an even more bustling December (BussBuss made its new home in sunny San Francisco), we are back in full swing and ready for a fabulous new year – we hope you are too!
In that spirit, we are more committed than ever to our personal style philosophy and mission of only featuring (and buying) things that make us smile. These fresh and cheery Bellero bags do just that. We especially love the bags featuring mid-century designer Alexander Girard's fantastically retro textiles. Nab a cosmetic clutch or full-size clutch bag to add inspiration to your day right here at Bellero.

December 05, 2006 : Bag Bambina
|
We're big fans of Kelly green, and it looks especially best in small splashes, like with this Bambina di Cioccolato Speranza Bag. It's so much more unexpected than basic black, yet is surprisingly versatile too – wear it with your mod shift and tights, frilly frocks or with your jeans and a casual top.
Treat yourself this holiday season with a darling new bag from Mighty Flirt here.

November 30, 2006 : Becky Oh!
|
MJ and LV are great and all, but if you like to be mysterious about your handbag's origins and keep them guessing, Becky Oh! bags may be for you. We love the big roomy size of the Intaglio bag, but how it slimly fits to the body -- deftly providing storage for a girl-on-the-go's essentials while not adding bulk to her frame.
Plus, all bags are made to order and are one of a kind -- portable couture with plenty of change left over to have something to put inside your new bag. Check out the selection of handbags, wristlets and more right here at Becky Oh!

November 09, 2006 : Rockett St George
|
Recently we got a note from our friends across the pond letting us know they had opened up a brilliant new online gift shop featuring accessories, home goodies and more from some of the UK's freshest talent. At first click, we were in love. Kind of like the Mighty Flirt of the UK, the shop specializes in up-and-coming British-based designers. We're fawning over all the gorgeous prints-intense pieces like the bags, pillows and robes.
Find gifts for guys, kids, your home and, always most importantly, YOU, right here at the scrumptious Rockett St George (and yes, they ship to the US).

November 02, 2006 : Meet Me at the Plaza
|
Even with Oprah's endorsement yesterday of Cole Haan heels with Nike Air technology, we know in our hearts (and toes) that flats will always be comfier. Which is really important to grasp in a city where you constantly walk everywhere. Plus, ballet flats are chic and timeless in an Audrey Hepburn kind of way, and she is our all-time style crush, after all.
Right now we're loving these spotted Jeffrey Campbell flats at the amazing shoe, handbag and accessories shop Plaza Too. We're also swooning over the cute leopard headband, Murval wallpaper tote and fabulous riding boots, not to mention the Viv & Ingrid and Alexis Bittar jewels.
Discover your own favorites to complete your fall look right here at Plaza Too. Plus, score free shipping on orders of $200+ to anywhere in the U.S.

October 09, 2006 : Columbus Day Deals
|
It's Columbus Day, and while we may not be out discovering new lands, we are discovering great deals. We hadn't popped in at Bluefly in awhile, but we're glad we finally did. They have a great selection of winter coats (the belted black Kenneth Cole is classic and sexy), and we love the high gloss of Kate Spade's chocolate patent leather bag.
Scope out all the goodies, and take an extra 15% off coats, jackets, denim and dresses, right here at Bluefly.

October 05, 2006 : Balancing Act
|
When BussBuss is feeling a bit unbalanced and needs a little break, she heads over to the West Side Highway (Hudson River Park) for a stroll or a bike ride. And she's always surprised by and in awe of the brave souls at the trapeze school that's set up alongside the park. While envious of those flying high above the city, she full well knows she'll probably never be a swing kid herself.
But she can get into the spirit with one of these whimsical totes by Miele Fresca. A nice reminder that life should always include some fun and adventure, whether that means keeping your feet on the ground or your head in the clouds, you can pick up the darling bag right here.

September 21, 2006 : World According to Jess
|
We've been fans of the uniquely colorful and crazy bag line World According to Jess for a long time now. It's always so refreshing to see bags that are outside of the box and not just vague knockoffs of trendy so called "It" bags – and we just plain dig the youthful vibe (and bet WATJ does a lot of biz in Japan). So we were super excited to see the sale going on at WATJ right now. Some bags we've coveted for years now are now at prices so friendly we can gobble up a handful – ah, Mom was right: patience is a virtue!
Faves include the Preppy Fun Traveler (was $210, now $65), the Bubbys Crossword (was $200, now $90) and the Zip It Traveler (was $265, now $125). Can you tell we're ready for our trip abroad? Scope out your faves right here at World According to Jess – and remember, it's never too early to start thinking about holiday gifts!

September 05, 2006 : Bag Love
|
With school back in session, we can't help but think of preppiness in all its sporty-chic glory. Plus, after being inundated with the boho/grunge/I'm-too-cool-to-wash-my-hair look for so long now, we're feeling like going against the grain just a bit. Who knew country-club preppiness would someday be against the grain? Ah, fashion.
And these super sweet and bright tote bags will let us have our fix – and at a fab steal too. Originally $70, they're on sale for just $35. Plus, BussBuss shoppers score 20% off everything with code BussBuss at Shop Rapunzels, so pick one up in yellow, pink and blue and you'll be able to scratch a few names off of your Christmas list early. Click here to Shop Rapunzels now!
p.s. We also totally heart the Rebecca Minkoff 'Morning After' bag and this is the only spot we know of where we can score one for 20% off. Can somebody scratch it off of our wishlist for us? Thanks!

August 28, 2006 : Bag a Myna
|
Independent handbag label Myna is having a fab sale so now's the time to nab a beautiful bag at a bargain price. We're really loving the Waverly tote and the Cyd velvet clutch for fall. And we lurve that they're more than 50% off. All Myna bags are super limited edition, so once they're gone, they're gone forever. Scope out your faves – from the new fall line too – right here at Myna.

August 24, 2006 : Good to Be You
|
We came across the cutest little online boutique recently that made us remember that being girly is actually something we love, so its name couldn't be more perf -- Good to Be You. GTBY carries lots of adorable girly-glam goodies, but the one that caught our eye was the Yasmena. Remember these from Sex and the City? They're fab when going to a cocktail party or out dancing or to a wedding or anywhere you need your essentials but want to be hands-free.
The clever patented design with stretch-like handles gives you the option of wearing your Yasmena several ways, like in your palm, on your hand, around your wrist or with your dainty little fingers. We'll be sporting ours at all the Fashion Week parties in just a few weeks. Score yours in a variety of styles (we heart the vintage and the flapper) right here at Good to Be You.

|
August 17, 2006 : Ivanna Take a Peek
|
We love discovering fabulous new shopping sites (obviously, it's what we live for), and we're extra excited about Scandinavian design shop Peek Keep. True to its name, there's plenty we're peeking and want to be keeping. Especially everything by Ivana Helsinki. Her adorable and vintage-esque coin purse has been added to our must-have list (and would make a fab little gift for a friend come the holidays), and the wonderfully original serving tray, with the same print of the girl we love, would make breakfast in bed -- and cocktails -- that much sweeter.
We're also really loving the Fennofolk bag for fall – its generous size means we could tote the kitchen sink with us, which is important considering there's nothing else we do in the kitchen. Scope out all of the fab offerings, from home accessories to accessories for yourself, right here at Peek Keep.

August 11, 2006 : Not So Plain Mabel
|
We hadn't been by independent goods purveyor Plain Mabel in quite some time – and boy were we missing out. Things we never knew we couldn't live without include an erin originals wallet made of vinyl measuring tape, a Brooklyn Bags Ella the Elephant tiny tote and this Erica Weiner silver scissors necklace. Honestly, we must own this necklace, and luckily, at just $35, we can definitely afford to do so – hooray! It will look so haute layered with our recent Poison Apple finds. Scope out all of the quirky hipster goodies and find your can't-live-without faves right here at Plain Mabel.

August 02, 2006 : Blissen Up
|
Anyone with an interest in fashion and design, especially independent fashion and design, probably knows the wonder that is Jill Bliss. If you don't, Jill's an indie design superstar, expertly combining nature, color and wit in her drawings on totes, stationery, tees and accessories that always feel subtle, organic, fresh, cheery and understated. Not an easy aesthetic to accomplish, folks. And we can't get over how much we love her cali poppy tee and totes. Both are limited edition, so if you're as obsessed as we are, get your fave now before they're all gone right here at Blissen.

July 21, 2006 : Prints Charming
|
Love the hipster DIY look but can't craft to save your life? Get in on the trend with an adorable and awesome bag by Lucha Workshop. Prints-intense and just the perfect shape, we can't decide if we prefer our hand-sewn, hand-painted and hand-screened bag with birds, bunnies, deer, splatter hearts, pirate ships or plain with a side of buttons. At this price, we could get all of them -- we're just not sure we're up for so many compliments from strangers.
If you're up for it, pick your bag(s) -- or tee or wallet or pouch (they have those too) -- here at Lucha Workshop. And check out their hilarious blog, where spools of thread go on strike and headline-making news includes 'Silkscreen Accident Leaves Shirt Horribly Disfigured.' Giggles at no additional cost.

May 25, 2006 : Exit9
|
We came across Exit9 in ReadyMade magazine, one of our fave mags ever (they essentially show you how to make the coolest hipster crafts), and couldn't believe we'd never heard of them -- especially since they're also in NYC. Holla neighbor! The quirky gift emporium, a mix between Fred Flare and Elsewares but with more edge, carries a fun assortment of gifts and accessories. Some of our fave finds include this oh-so practical mountable bottle opener (we hate having to dig through our drawers when we have friends over), this hilarious tennis/skulls tote, and this sweet piggy bank that makes deposits and withdrawals so much more fun. Check it all out here – it's a perf place to find hipster hostess gifts too, which will come in handy this Memorial Day weekend and all summer long.

Also snag an adorable ladybug tee for $14.99, dresses from $19.99, super cute sandals and shoes from $14.99 and fun and colorful jewelry from $9.99. April 20, 2006 : Yellow There
|
Those who have been BussBuss readers for a while know that we worship at the altar of color. The world is not black and white, so why should our wardrobes be? Which is why we lurve spring and summer! Even the most diehard fans of black and neutrals spice it up with bold hues. Our biggest color obsession right now? Yellow. And while we won't be trouncing around the beach in an itsy bitsy teeny weeny yellow polka dot bikini any time soon, we will be trouncing around town with one of these Mamie bags. Like carrying around sunshine all day long, these bags are yummy in every sense of the word. Prefer just a ray of sunshine instead? Check out the adorable belts with turtle buckles. And be sure to scope out Mamie's new jewelry too – the anchor necklaces and bracelets are a really fun nod to the nautical trend without going overboard. Pun SO intended. Check out the whole new collection at Mamie here.
Psst. Remember, tomorrow is Objects of YOUR Affection day! Email us your fave finds from the week (websites or specific items you've bought or coveted) to editor@bussbuss.com -- please put OBJECTS OF MY AFFECTION in the subject line! We'll post them here like so!

March 31, 2006 : Spring Bags for Less
March 28, 2006 : Salute Style
|
Many, many bags come across our desks here at the big double Buss, and after awhile a girl tires of seeing the same ol' thing. Trendy becomes predictable when everyone sports the same bag, which is why we were so super psyched when we saw the new line of military-inspired bags at Cahoots. Back in our infancy, we interviewed Cahoots designer and artist Paige Davidson (you can read the interview here) and it's exciting to see how far she's come, while staying true to her roots. All Cahoots bags are made with vintage fabrics and are one-of-a-kind or very limited edition, and we're especially digging these clutches and handbags fashioned from old military uniforms. Investigate the whole line and scoop up your fave fast (they are one of a kind, after all) at Cahoots Handbags.

March 22, 2006 : Great Design for Good
|
In a not-yet-very-fruitful search for office chairs that look stylish, are comfy and don't cost more than $300, we came across this cool chair (not for sale) on treehugger that was fashioned out of an old Audi car seat. Which lead us to Greenloop, a company who aligns style and sustainability, aesthetics and ethics, resulting in super cool clothing and accessories. Which got us to thinking about other designers who go green and who use vintage and found materials to make cool new things, like Lekkner, Sew Pretty and Pamela Barsky. Which reminded us that we never posted this super helpful article about socially conscious designers – big oops on our part. Better late than never! Check it out, and if you have any great ideas or suggestions on that topic (perhaps a fab DIY project to share?) then email us at editor@bussbuss.com or post on our Haute Talk message boards (we're trying to clear all of the spam away – scout's honor). By the way, the only chair we've come up with so far is this one, so please pass along any tips you have (we've been given the following reqs: no arms, preferably ergonomic, under $300, not ugly)!

Plus, visit sewprettyonline.com to see how you can save on these lovelies and find out about holiday shipping deadlines -- hurry, there's not much time!

November 17, 2005 : Sweet Calliope
|
We get warm fuzzies whenever we discover a new and fabulous gift and accessories site, and after finding Calliope Boutique, we were nearly ablaze. With a perfectly edited selection of gifts for everyone on your list (for her, for him, for baby, for kids, for coworkers, for the hostess with the mostest – and in all price ranges), Calliope has done the dirty work to come up with the best options for every loved one in your la vida loca. That said, we're really dying to buy things for ourselves! Namely, these bells&whistles bags by Barbara Rourke, which couldn't be more perfect this season. However, thinking outside of ourselves, we're also loving these cufflinks for groovy guys and this good dog jacket for cool canines. Go shopping for your faves at calliopeboutique.com.

November 03, 2004 : Handmaid by Michelle Frantz
|
Wow. Just yesterday we were lusting after Handmaid by Michelle Frantz's yummilicious bags. But the $220 price tag was a bit much to swallow. Lucky for us, we're shopping whores and found the same bag for only $149 on bluefly.com. Once again, addiction pays off. That price is just right for a "special friend" to score us one for Christmas. Hint, hint. The only problem now: magenta or purple?
Love it? Hate it? Tell us what you think on the BussBuss Message Boards!

January 20, 2004 : C'mon Get Happy Lucky Me
|
BussBuss is all for goodies that make us smile. And it's all but impossible not to bust a grin when you see the designs coming out of Happy Lucky Me's creator, Anjali Pathak. Whether it's an "I Love Pho" tote, "Yummy" panties or an "Asian Foodie" tank, Anjali's love for Asian cuisine, and her happy spirit, ring loud and clear. We just had to find out what makes the HLM mastermind so damn happy, so we stole her away from her work and asked her a few questions. To find out for yourself, read the HLM interview here. To snag this darling tote, or many more scrumptious goodies, visit happyluckyme.com.

January 15, 2004 : Color Me Happy
|
What to do with all those paint chip samples you picked up at Home Depot when you were on that DIY kick way back when? Luckily, artist Narangkar Khalsa figured it out. Fabulously colored wallets fashioned out of paint chips? Brilliant! Take it from me, the person who fashioned not-so-fabulous picture frames out of them. I'm glad to see someone had a bright idea. To pick up your own Nara Wallet for just $25, visit narangkar.com.

November 05, 2003 : Acme Made Bags: $79.99+

Stop schleppin' your best friend, a.k.a. your laptop, around in some boring bulky bag. It's not happy in there, and can you blame it? It wants to be surrounded in elegance. Which is why you should buy it an Acme bag for Christmas. The streamlined design and fab colors are sure to make it giddy. Choose from red, grey, yellow, chocolate, green dots, geometri, pink circles and more. Prices range from $79.99 - $159.99 at acmemade.com.

August 26, 2003 : Fanny Packs: $31
|
Remember when fanny packs were those tacky things your mom made you strap on to carry all your junk around? Yeah. I know, the scars are still fresh. Well, it's time to get past that and into the new world of "fashionable" fanny packs. No, it's not an oxymoron, contrary to popular belief. Even A-list celebs have been seen sporting the former fashion faux pas. LeSportsac makes some cute ones, all at reasonable prices. I dig this Big Apple one for $31. You can even get them monogrammed for an extra charge. So go forth and wear your fanny pack with pride. I can almost guarantee that nobody will point and laugh. Almost.

|
June 27, 2003 : Loop Profile Beth Bag: $15
|
So cute and fashionable, it's hard to resist buying all four. I'm personally all about the pink hula bag and the black martini. Okay, and the red shopper. How can you be expected to choose just one? Fortunately these vinyl totes by Loop are only $15/pop at the always fab girlshop.com, so you could buy all four if you wanted and not break the bank. We hope.

June 05, 2003 : PANTONE WALLETS: $34
|
XYZ. eXamine Your Zipper. No, not that one silly. Zipper Gifts, as in the design-fab LA and Brooklyn stores. Luckily they're also online. An edgier, more colorful Red Envelope, Zipper incorporates art form and function, resulting in beautiful but useable gifts and accessories. I'm mad for these Pantone Wallets. Available in black, brown, white, lime or turquoise (get the turquoise!) for $34 at zippergifts.com.

May 28, 2003 : Moulin Rouge Black Lace Corset Handbag: $49
|
The Brit site KitschShop.com claims they are 'Specialists in Popular Culture' -- and they just might be right. A great resource for finding gifts for hard-to-shop-for friends, or to find unique pieces to spice up your own decor, this site's got a lot of kitsch to choose from. I think this Corset Bag is quite the fashion statement and can nearly guarantee it'll be a smashing conversation piece. Not tempted by this vixen purse? Not a prob -- browse the retro books, funky mouse pads or novelty gifts. You're sure to be amused.

|
May 17, 2003 : BATIK-PRINT BAG: $29
|
This bag screams Hawaiian-chic. I like its bipolar 'I'm slouchy but structured' vibe -- somehow I relate. Bag it at newport-news.com for $29. Now shall we talk about Newport News? I always thought they were older and not-so-interesting. Either they've changed or I was wrong. I'm going with the former. Their latest summer sale catalogue has tons of cute stuff for really, really low prices. Bikinis for $20, frilly dresses for $30, shoes and bags for $15, tropical accessories and more for prices that just make sense. Get your bargain on at newport-news.com

But after a little investigation, it's good weird, not eww weird! Vanessa Jean makes custom purses, wallets, belts and more all out of duct tape. You pick the colors, and voila, instant duct tape creation! I like this Hanna bag in Pretty Princess Pink for $25. For more groovy goodies, visit vanessajean.com.
