Go To Sleep With Hambone and Jennicakes

After flying from San Francisco to Amsterdam to Norway to Amsterdam to Chicago, BussBuss is le pooh-ped. Jetlagged. Or, shall we say, jethagged.

And while we could go on about beauty solutions to make us look perkier, we'd rather just sleep.

All.

Day.

Long.

How to block out that gorgeous Chicago summer sun?

With a firecracker of an eye mask by Hambone and Jennicakes, of course.

We're sad we missed them at last weekend's Renegade Craft Fair in San Francisco, but thank the Internet gods and sfgirlbybay for leading us to them.

Chic Grad Gift: Lauren Merkin Laptop Love

Got a grad in your life that you want to gift, gorgeous?

Hook her up with a playfully chic Lauren Merkin business card case or laptop sleeve.

Since it's important to dress the part of the job you want and not necessarily the job you have, you'll be setting her up for success -- or, at the very least, making her the envy of all of her friends.

Which, let's face it, is sometimes just as rewarding.

New Map City: Paris, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Beyond!

Save for cupcakes and milkshakes, there's not much BussBuss loves more than traveling.

Which is just one reason we're so in love with these chic city totes.

Besides being adorable and oh so very practical (no more fussing with unsightly maps when you're visiting your favorite locales), Maptotes are also very eco-fabulous, as they make a great replacement for any plastic bag.

Also, being the typography junkies we are, we totally dig how the fonts match the vibe of their respective cities.

At just $15 a pop, it's never been easier to travel the world (and your fave nabe) in style.

The Perfect Gift for Jet Setters

Remember the glamour days of air travel?

Neither do we.

But we've finally found a fabulous solution to the things that irk us most when flying the unfriendly skies: arctic cold air, icky used pillows (if you're lucky enough to even nab one), wanting desperately to sleep it all away, but failing miserably, no matter how many Dramamine we've knocked back.

Say hello to the PamBee.

Designed by a flight attendant who knows we want to travel in style and comfort, the PamBee includes a silky blanket long enough to keep toes cozy, an inflatable pillow and a matching adjustable eye mask.

Available in several prints and solids, PamBee fits into any carry-on or tote and barely takes up any space due to the ingenious design (the blanket and eye mask slip right into the deflated pillow).

World According to Jess

We've been fans of the uniquely colorful and crazy bag line World According to Jess for a long time now. It's always so refreshing to see bags that are outside of the box and not just vague knockoffs of trendy so called "It" bags and we just plain dig the youthful vibe (and bet WATJ does a lot of biz in Japan). So we were super excited to see the sale going on at WATJ right now. Some bags we've coveted for years now are now at prices so friendly we can gobble up a handful ah, Mom was right: patience is a virtue!

Faves include the Preppy Fun Traveler (was $210, now $65), the Bubbys Crossword (was $200, now $90) and the Zip It Traveler (was $265, now $125). Can you tell we're ready for our trip abroad? Scope out your faves right here at World According to Jess and remember, it's never too early to start thinking about holiday gifts!

Do Not Disturb

The best way to catch some zzzs on a flight, other than by ODing on Dramamine? Kick back with your headphones and cover your peepers. But a girl needs some variety in life, even in her sleep, which is why this eye mask set of three is the perfect travel companion. Reading 'Wake Me for Duty Free,' 'Do Not Disturb' and 'Wake Me for' (food and drink), you'll have not only your eyes, but all of your bases, covered too. Score the set for $38 at Flight 001.

For the Lurve of Travel

Chances are, with the July 4th weekend looming just beyond our grasp, a bunch of you hauties will be traveling soon. It's bad enough that 95% of us in this world all have identical black luggage (bleh), so why make it worse by using airline-issued luggage tags? Step it up a notch, while making it loads easier to spot your luggage on that pesky taunting conveyor belt, by treating yourself and your bored and beaten luggage to a cool luggage tag. We like to show the love with these sweet and bright heart tags by one of our fave companies ever, iomoi. Score one (or a few) for yourself, in preppy green, powder pink, tangerine, ruby red or turquoise, for $25 each at iomoi.

December 21, 2004 : Hotel California

If you think personal attention, great service, and smart design have been lost to big business, you're in for a treat. Hotel Healdsburg in Healdsburg, California knocked the argyle socks right off of BussBuss. A serene, minimalist vibe, lacking all the pretentiousness you're apt to find at other chic hotels, plus deep 6-foot soaking tubs, a delicious complimentary breakfast each morning, and Frette sheets and robes, make us wanna pack up and move there stat.

The town itself is adorable and you're within easy driving distance to the Tuscany of North America: breathtaking Napa Valley. BussBuss loved the tour at Sterling Vineyards, which included an air tram ride, a wine tasting and, best of all, stunning views. We were so charmed we had to find out where we could find other great escapes like it, and luckily came up with Small Luxury Hotels of the World or slh.com, as well as designhotels.com. Hotel Healdsburg belongs to both and we can't wait to plan our next great escape. Check them out when you're plotting your next adventure. You'll be charmed, I'm sure.

July 24, 2003 : CHICAGO STYLE

So just because we've relocated to Detroit doesn't mean we're actually living there. No, rather we've been in Chicago for "business reasons." And may I just say this is one awesome city, as far as I can tell. Like NYC, but cleaner, less crowded and with the friendliness one expects of the Midwest (for the most part). We've been lucky enough that we've stayed at the W and the Westin both times. The Westin is perfectly located (cue Oprah) in the heart of Chicago's Magnificent Mile (a.k.a. Michigan Avenue). That means downtown Chi-town, where the rich people live. High rises, designer shops, basically your Fifth Avenue or Rodeo Drive of the Midwest. I recommend the Westin because you can roll around in their "Heavenly Beds" (layers of white down and soft, yet crisp, white sheets). The atmosphere is stylish and classic.

The W, on the other hand, is located on North Lake Shore, directly across from Navy Pier, which is on one of those "Great Lakes" (I'm guessing Lake Michigan, but does it mater? It's all water, no?). Navy Pier is a tourist mecca, likened to the Santa Monica Pier, where you have your Ferris wheel and other carnie rides alongside family-friendly restaurants. You can take boat tours from the Pier and it's actually clean and nicely done -- if you're into that. The W's bar, lounge and restaurant are sleek and trendy, as are all W hotels, but the rooms try too hard, resulting in a tacky tiki-meets-wannabe-mod feeling. A huge plus though, is that from the W's top-floor bar, you can view the Navy Pier fireworks Wed-Sat nights at 9:30 p.m. I've never seen prettier fireworks, and the ambient electronic music from the W bar definitely helps.

Now on to what really counts: shopping. Michigan Avenue is nice, don't get me wrong. I found several great deals at the five-story Bloomingdale's located in the 900 N. Michigan Shops and have a new favorite label: Aqua. With about 70 shops ranging from Bebe and Club Monaco to Gucci and Maxmara, you won't be bored. The 900 N. Michigan Shops are also directly across the street from the aforementioned Westin. Up and down the Mag Mile, you'll also find Tiffany's, Saks, Ralph Lauren, Nordstrom, Sephora and more.

But if you have a hankering for local boutiques, Lincoln Park's Armitage Avenue is where you should be. Lincoln Park has a wonderful neighborhoody feel, reminding me of NYC's Upper West Side. Highlights include Art Effect, which features many local artists' wares, and Soapstone, a yummy bath shop where I scored a fun orange, red and fuschia Alan Stuart make-up bag for just $10. I also snagged a new lip gloss by lil-known brand (but not for long) Wallet.

If you find yourself famished from all of your shopping, head to nearby Mia Francesca on Clark Street. Truly some of the best pasta you'll ever have (I recommend the pasta with asparagus and lemon cream sauce -- deelish!) And a smidge of bread pudding never hurt anyone. If you wanna have the best chocolate cake of your life, head to Bice on Ontario Street, just a few blocks from the W. Flourless molten chocolate cake with strawberries and a scoop of vanilla ice cream will make your whole trip to Chi-town worth it. By this point, you'll probably be out of spending money, but not to fret. The 35-acre Lincoln Park Zoo is free! Lots of animals, beautiful grounds and a great place to show off your new duds.

Chicago has a lot to offer, and I haven't even had deep dish yet. I'll be back on September 20th though for the Renegade Craft Fair in Wicker Park. Come support BussBuss and your local artists as we share our homemade wares with the world (err, I mean Chicago).

May 23, 2003 : Jet Stream Couture Travel Collection: $12.99+

Let's face it. Travel is wonderful, but traveling is not. Whether it's dealing with long lines, smelly passengers or snooty flight attendants, traveling can be a real stress-fest. That's why it's important to focus on the small things that can brighten up your journey. Like these super-bright, ultra-snazzy travel bags from the Container Store. Moisture and leak-resistant, at least you can ensure that one thing will go right on your trip -- and thats priceless.
