Best of New York Fashion Week: Kelly Wearstler Fall 2012

best of new york fashion week: kelly wearstler fall 2012 collection

Truth be told, the runways hadn’t felt very inspiring, colorful or fresh– that is until Kelly Wearstler’s punchy Fall 2012 presentation! Who could make ’80s acid wash chic? Kelly, that’s who! Suddenly, I’m craving colored denim with a downtown twist and punchy coats in cool-girl shapes. You too?

The infusion of color (no one mixes hues better than Wearstler) – cool blues, purples, and greens with a jolt of peppy peach – are the ideal antidote to fall’s more expected neutrals like camel and espresso. Kelly Wearstler surprises again; Fall 2012 I welcome you with open (acid-washed) arms!

What do you think? Do you love Kelly Wearstler’s Fall 2012 collection as much as I do?

Kelly Wearstler’s Mystery Travel Companion

I’ve effused about my love for my style icon, interior designer Kelly Wearstler, many a time, so I was a happy camper to come across these photos on Kelly Wearstler’s Facebook page. Here, Kelly looks hipper than hip in front of Serge Gainbourg’s house in the Saint-Germain in Paris. This is how to do casual-cool.

And this is how to make a statement. Wearstler’s the master of being memorable and I love her quirky, bold and playful style (as seen here  in O, The Oprah Magazine). The best surprise though? Discovering Kelly Wearstler’s mystery travel companion… Can you guess who he is?

Franc! Her teddy bear… How sweet is he? Passed down from her grandmother, to her mother and now to Kelly, Franc has been in the family for 90 years. When Kelly was 10, Franc lost his eyes (poor Franc!), but Kelly came to the rescue, replacing them with buttons from her grandfather’s naval jacket. Creativity started early for Kelly Wearstler.

You’ve met my travel companion, Alfred, haven’t you? Here he is writing a love letter in Marfa, Texas.

He’s a bit larger than Franc, so doesn’t get to go everywhere, but he does enjoy his jaunts around the globe and likes to record them on his vintage typewriter. I bet Franc and Alfred would get along just fine, talking about interiors and fashion (Alfred loves his signature red bowtie!), Parisian cafes and Nutella (Alfred ONLY eats chocolate).

Do  you have a favorite travel companion?

Or a style icon? I’d love to know…

Imaginary Cocktail Party

Do you have trouble falling asleep at night? Sometimes, I can’t fall asleep right away (likely culprit: midnight servings of Nutella) and it seems a million things race through my mind. You too? Sadly, I don’t have a solution (other than nixing the midnight indulgences, but really, who wants to do that?), but I do have a question.

Last night I was pondering who I would invite to an imaginary cocktail party. I’m sure you’ve been asked this question before  “Who would you have at your dream dinner party,” but I want to know who you’d invite to your dream cocktail party?

Aside from fabulous friends and fam, here’s who’s on my guest list:

David Sedaris, Sarah Silverman, Tina Fey, Tim Gunn, Wes Anderson

Kate and Andy Spade, Guiliana Rancic, Neil Patrick Harris, Snoop Dogg, Sarah Jessica Parker

Alexis Stewart, Kelly Wearstler, Anderson Cooper, Regis and Joy Philbin, Nora Ephron

Grace Coddington, Anthony Bourdain, Matt Damon, Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos, Jonathan Adler

Carl Reiner, Ryan Reynolds, Jimmy Fallon

What a night it would be. Now I only need to ponder invitations, how to decorate, what to serve and, most importantly, what to wear. Better keep that Nutella by my bedside tonight…

Who’s on your dream guestlist?
